Twins vs 2015 z06

I hate those debates about modded cars coming in cheaper for equivalent performance than a normally faster stock car, but how about this....

approx MSRP for a twin: $25k
approx MSRP for a z06: $80k

Now the question is, if one was to dump $55k into a twin, would it be better than a stock z06. And yes, I'm using ''better'' on purpose... define it as you wish, quicker, more engaging, purer...

I think you could dump <$20k into a twin and make it better than a Z06.

First, and biggest, problem with the Z06 is its a general motors product. Hard to fix that.

No... no no no no no no. You cannot. I specifically sold my BRZ because of this reason.

Dumping $55k into a twin for what? Track, show car or just power bragging right?

Hopefully this is just a theory thread...

Only a fucking idiot would drop 55k into a Twin...

Your 28k car + the 30k you spent modding would make it worth how much? 30k tops?

If you are rich as hell...go for it.

Otherwise we will just see a thread with someone trying to sell their 60k "value" Twin...and that thread will remind us of this thread.

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72254

Two years from now when you lose your job/get married/have a kid/go back to school/decide you want a boat/decide you want a different car...

You can sell your 85k Vette for 70k.

You can sell your 60k Twin for...30k tops?

If you crash this car your insurance will give you a check for 24k...

Do the 30k in mods route if you wanna dominate on Forza or Gran Turismo...otherwise save your money.

BTW 85k would probably buy you a Toyota FT-1 when it comes out.

Remove the word "Corvette" from this idea and replace it with the phrase "FT-1" and you realize how stupid this idea is.

With all that said...if you do this Twin+30k of mods idea...

I wanna see pics and a build thread!

There are a few Twins on this forum with 20k engine rebuilds/swaps alone so dropping 30k in a twin isn't necessarily an off the wall concept. And its all about what you care about, if you give a shit about resale value then you shouldn't be modding this car to begin with let alone buying one.

OP wanted to compare the two on a performance basis and IMO 55k into a twin comparing track times and road ride quality it would be a better car (and it would be 100 percent tailored to your exact liking). That's only my opinion. Whether or not its worth it to anyone is their own opinion.

Lastly and just for funsies - Your not getting 70 grand out of a two year old car that MSRP'd at 80k. It's not like they are rare. Its worth close to 70 when you drive it off the lot that day. Depending on the mileage 60 is more than likely a closer figure, unless you bought a special edition or the guy buying the car is a complete moron.

I agree.

I don't see a problem with dropping $$$$ on a twin. If thats what you want to do with it. I personally don't ever plan on selling my BRZ. IF* I were to sell the BRZ, it would be to just get rid of it and at that point I probably would let it go a considerable discount to Fair market value to just move it quickly.

It's not like mods are a better investment as far as what it's worth later on down the road. Pour that much money into a twin, and you won't get nearly as much as what the overall package had cost you. Sure, you might recoup a good chunk of it, but that's after the pain in the ass process of parting it out and hoping that everything gets sold in a timely manner... and almost every time there is a part-out thread, you see prices get slashed over and over.

I would take the 55k and put it into the FR-S. Heck I could of bought a Corvette. I wanted an FR-S.. Both are really cool cars. This thread has a built in subjective premise so the conclusion is always "right" or acceptable... thanks for that...

It is, at least for me, just a theory thread... i think id take a z06 over a highly built fr-s.. i also think the next supra will be more expensive, but keeping my fingers crossed that it isnt.

Z06 by a long shot. I understand modding but if you dump that much into a twin, you are missing the point of what makes a twin.

Well at that point i would argue theres not much of a twin left.. but the platform is sound to handle a lot.
