SoCal Spotted

Saw an ultramarine 2015 shark fin FRS with black Toyota badges front and back, GT emblem, smoked OEM tail lights and a white wavy sticker in between the rear window and the gasoline door driving north on 57N between Imperial Highway all the way north at 1:30pm on Sunday august 17.

I slowed down purposely as I saw you (Asian male driver in his 20-30s) catching up to me. Then I sped up, rolled down my window, and gave you a thumbs up before I exited Pathfinder Rd as you continued on 57N. However, I do not see you the driver looking back at me nor any eye contact or gesture. Perhaps you were zoned out.

Drove up to Santa Monica, and then to the 626 market yesterday. Really suprised I only spotted one FRS all day . A lady driving a stock Raven on the 405N.

addressing stocked versus stock...

Ok, yes....stocked would only be a valid term if you were changing a modified car BACK to stock and yes I as well as some of you was scratching my head the first couple of times that I saw it used.

Fortunately or unfortunately, as the case may be, we don't always have control over what takes hold as a colloquialism.

In this case, it appears that stocked has taken hold and yes I used it....

It is, as invalid a logical basis it has for existing, now a colloquial term and we are probably stuck with it.

So yes we may have seen a stocked twin somewhere and we will likely see people continue to refer to stock vehicles as stocked...

Not much we can do about it except to use it or ignore it or complain (which often leads to it becoming even more cemented as a term) I for one will know almost immediately when the term is used outside of the ft86 community where it came from and it gives us a further means for isolating us as a group..

Isolating probably isn't the best term to use. It gives us uniqueness as a community, so instead of nuking it(Navy term for overthinking it), let's embrace it... or not...lol

What do ya say????

No.

It's stock. It's either stock or modded.

*Stock refers to bare bones regular untouched nothing aftermarket.

*Stocked refers to something filled with goods or supplies.. Like a store's merchandise shelf is fully stocked. An entirely different meaning.

src: middle school English 101

I'm no grammar nazi because we get the idea of what he means when he uses that word or else he'd say modded and list what's *not stock* on the car he saw. Lol.

-Thanks

col·lo·qui·al·ism
kəˈlōkwēəˌlizəm/Submit
noun
a word or phrase that is not formal or literary, typically one used in ordinary or familiar conversation.
the use of ordinary or familiar words or phrases.

A term used incorrectly can easily become a colloquialism.

That's why I specifically used that term.

I acknowledged that it was an incorrect usage and noted that because of it being used so much on this forum, it had become a colloquialism.

That was the whole point, often times if you try to grammar nazi someone for using a colloquialism, it cements the term's use.

So, I didn't bother to fight it and just used it also myself.

And the term stocked is a past tense of the verb to stock.

Just the term stock itself is NOT in the dictionary as an adjective and is itself a colloquialism.

So the term doesn't exist as an official word in the English language.

As I said, you can attempt to fight it, but just like facing the borg, resistance is futile.

My car is NOT a stocked twin although it ain't much different aside from aesthetics.....

a stock car is a STOCK car. "stocked" car makes no fucking sense. none of this colloquial rules and regulations. this isnt about colloquial-ness. this is about using a word to describe the state of a car... it's either "STOCK" or "modded/modified/altered/etc."

"STOCK" is the form the car arrives from the factory to us, the consumer. you can't "do" anything to a car when you first get it to make it "more stock" unlike when modifying a car by adding/altering parts. this is like trying to describe a white frs as "i saw a whited fr-s on the 110 north freeway." the car is already white to begin with. you dont make it "whiter" even if you put a damn kkk cone hat on it.
