Well, I can kinda agree, for the price GM was charging for the car ($40k US). For $40k, you can get a pretty sweet car that has better all-around performance. The Volt's performance is comparable to a V6 Camry (except for milage, obviously). Even with tax breaks, and savings (you still need to fill it with gas occasionally) the price makes this car a little unfeasible. If GM had sold it for $10k less, it would have been a huge hit.

I guess the whole Government Motors thing...bail out...they caught on fire...ugly as sin...
I do understand that rarely is new technology instantly profitable. I view the Volt as a bad car...but I do think it was necessary, because it sounds like the new Volt is going to be better. Also it seems the price of them has come down a bit. Really when compared to the Tesla, I just think the Teslas are much better cars. Then again, they cost 4 times as much. BTW, I have not driven one, but I have ridden in one and it wasn't a bad ride or anything. It just felt cheap on the inside. Though your comment has made me hit the Chevy website and they do look improved. |

I voted yes but like @Jaden and others said, I'm taking "everything being equal" to be exactly that, including:
Acquisition price Range Capability Refueling time, frequency, availability I had the Volt on my short list when I bought the FR-S, but it fell short on the price. Chevy did the technology right (for me and my needs), the car itself was a bit lackluster. If there have been a Camaro-Volt or a Corvette-Volt, and the price was reasonable, I might have considered it more. The real win would have been a SuburbaVolt, imagine the improved fuel economy. Overall though, I'd much prefer a fuel cell/hydrogen car to an electric. I have zero interest in a Tesla. The company just rubs me the wrong way. Pure personal opinion, and not really worth debating.

Given that Tesla released all their patents, it may not be long before you start seeing affordable EVs showing up under the US Big Three and other major automakers.

No and for a couple reasons:
1: They're not equal. 2: See #1

When I turn my car on and hear the exhaust roar during a cold start, I get goosebumps.
You can't get that feeling with an electirc motor |

For what it's worth, the Opel/Vauxhall Ampera looks way cooler than the Volt (same car, different face)
