I play rush down Boxer for casual. I play Cammy competitive. Both work like a charm.

In general? I was pretty good at Mortal Kombat up through UMK3. I was awesome at Primal Rage and used to troll people at the arcade. I got good at Darkstalkers on PS as well. And then Guilty Gear and BlazBlue. Haven't touched Street Fighter in a loooong while though.

Yeah, a lot of people complain about SFIV being bad for some reason.

Mainly because I haven't bought a SF game in a long time. I did get SFxTekken or whatever it is on Vita through PS+ but I got so freaking bored after half an hour of tutorials so I uninstalled it to make room for other stuff..

Tutorials? Was it too hard to learn? You should play Ultra SFIV since it is actually a simple fighting game where you can win with just fundamentals or basic moves. Complex tactics and huge combos are not necessary to be good at it.

I just bought this game and as a noob, it's quite fun. I can't contemplate how people get so good at this game though. I cannot even complete 75% of the challenges with the character I use (Dan). All this focus attack, red EX cancel stuff, blah blah is not explained in detail in the training or challenges. Plus I'm too scared to try online play since I know I'm gonna get a beatdown every time.

I watched some beginner videos on Youtube but actually executing the moves on the controller is not very easy.

Yes, I am a Call of Duty scrub.

Yeah, focus attack, red focus, and double ultra are not needed if you want to win. I consider those mechanics as optional. When I first started out, I played the game like it was SFII and I still won matches.

That may be the case online where there will always be lag and a slight delay. Local matches and tournaments are a different story. If you don't know how to FADC and plink for quality combos then playing footsies will only get you so far. People learn to read you real quick. Don't drop combos!!!

When I used to have a car, I would go to Arcade Infinity and Super Arcade in LA county and I would just use M. Bison exclusively since I was too scrubby to use other characters. I am actually much more dangerous offline when playing SFIV since there is no lag, but I don't really know anymore since I have not been playing this game in the arcades. Super Arcade and Arcade Infinity always had really strong players, so practicing with them teaches you a lot of things.

Yeah, dropping combos leaves you open to all kinds of things, that's why I don't do big combos that don't really have much damage for the amount of hits they make. And big combos are too risky in my opinion due to you being likely to drop them. I usually do combos that are more of a sure thing when it comes to dealing damage. I am more about dealing consistent damage, and high damage per amount of time.

I am not familiar with those seeing as I don't live in California, but I'll assume they're pretty epic arcades! I am always impressed with people who can pull off combos like second nature in fighting games. Then again, I don't have nearly as much time to invest in games as I did in grade school. The age of niche arcades are coming to an end and it's a bit depressing. As long as I can still occasionally play Street Fighter and Initial D I think I'll be content.

Yeah, Super and AI are the top arcades to go to for high level competition in the West Coast, but AI closed down. I agree, the age of the arcades is pretty much done. I remember back in the day in the 90's, there was an arcade in every mall, but the advent of powerful home consoles and PC's has made the arcade scene dwindle to almost nothing which is sad. I prefer to see the people I play against in person.

No, it wasn't hard to learn. I was bored because I decided to do the tutorials to see if I'd missed anything, and it was late and then I gave up for some reason.

I can do simple. I mean, this was probably one of my first "fighting" games.


And I could pull off some insane combos in KI and MK as well. I was always terrible at Tekken and Virtua Fighter, because I got used to the much faster paced stuff and I like my combos quick and brutal. I haven't read Shoryuken in a while but I used to keep more up to date with everything. The past four years have had far less gaming for me since the birth of my first son, and my second most recently.

Congrats on the kids. I was always bad at Tekken as well and any other 3D fighter. I just was never able to wrap my mind around the fighting mechanics of Tekken. I'm the same way with combos. I like them fast and brutal.

I never played competitvely. My circle of gamer friends do. Its rediculous on how technical they get.

Frame rates of moves determine why for instance Ryu's Standing forward beats Kens standing forward... etc etc etc (disclaimer: I do not know if Ryu's standing forward beats Ken's standing forward. It was just an example.
