Porsche 718 or Alfa 4c

Both of these cars are probably going to be pretty close in MSRP if they put the 718 in production.

What are your thoughts on the 2? I feel that the two are/will be in direct competition to eachother.

Of the two, before driving either, I would choose the porsche. Simply because of Alfa's history. (Not that porche has the greatest history in reliabilty or maintenance either)

When it comes to pulling the trigger, I'd have to wait and compare the driving feel of both vehicles.

Didn't they say on Top Gear UK that every car guy has to own an Alfa at some point? I think I heard that.

I seem to recall hearing something along those lines.

If the alfa is everything I think it will be, I'd love to own one. On paper it sounds amazing.

Styling... Love it, except the headlights do not really speak to me... Or I don't speak italian.

I imagine the Alfa would just be the natural progression from what I have now..

I really like the 4C. Its a baby super car. But neither car I will ever be able to afford new. Nor could I justify spending that kind of money on a car.

If the Porsche has a boxer and a stick then it beats the Alfa on paper for me hands down, if Porsche uses the same I4-banger in every VAG under the sun then the Alfa wins.

If the Alfa had a manual I'd be saving up.

I'd take an Italian car over a German one any day.

Germans tend to engineer all the "fun" out of their cars.

The Italians will give you a living, breathing piece of artwork every time. Italian cars have passion and soul, they just may not always have airbags.

Does Porsche really need to make a smaller car than the Boxster? They're a luxury brand, they need to stay a luxury brand.

With the boxster and Cayman moving up in price, they should have an "affordable" Porsche.

It's the new cool thing to do. Mercedes is making the CLA and with the amount I already see on the streets I bet they don't regret it.

The CLA looks badass too, great move on Mercedes' part. My friend bought one, it's a pretty nice ride and everyone thinks it's sexy.

My criteria are stick, not-turbo, midengine, hard top, and so I have some hopes for the Porsche. I don't think the base version will be turbo because the Cayman only has 275hp, and there's no way a relatively big turbo 4 would make less than that. Remember that with Porsche, your acceleration is determined by how many dollars you spent, so this thing has to come in at well under 240hp or else it's going to be too close to the Cayman and Boxster. A 2.2L making a little over 220hp would put it at about the right performance level.

However I'm suspecting they'll screw it up, so I have my list of mods for the MR2 planned out.
