You need a pair of shoes just for walking course, as they will be ruined afterwards and you may as well just throw them away from the OPR. I usually just bring an old pair of flip flops for that. If you run Tue/Wed, it shouldn't be as bad though.

A bike is very handy, as is a "cool towel", a big floppy hat and wet weather gear. One year, it was 95 degrees and boiling when I left the line, and when I got half way round the course, huge hail stones started hitting my helmet!

Other than that, have no expectations other than trying to have fun. Way too easy to put pressure on yourself in what is a pretty intimidating environment.

I'm not going, but I'm curious what makes walking the Nationals course so aggressive that it destroys a pair of shoes? (or is this a joke that I didn't get?)

They get covered in sticky OPR which I've never managed to get off.

Just find someone running r-comps that collects a lot of OPR...same process for shoes as it is for tires.

People who have run Lincoln - I've heard cars tend to tighten up there. Do any of you set up the car looser for Lincoln than for the normal local asphalt lots?

in general, yes. the Lincoln concrete has more grip than most asphalt sites
so you may need to add more oversteer. some cars require more setup changes
than others but it all depends on where you start from and your driving style.

I can't take the wait anymore! The car is done, I am ready. Can we move this to next week?

NO! I'm on family vacation next week, so schedule changes are not permitted

I'm in an FSP car with useless rear tires that will generate almost no grip but somehow cover themselves in OPR. I'm leaving work tonight to hit Harbor Freight to buy an oscillating tool for removing it. The car's owner is taking two more oscillating tools and a generator to run them (because the battery kind die after two runs). Find the orange VW Rabbit and bring your shoes

Looking forward to meeting you, John. I see I'm following you announcing on Thur/Fri. Try not to be too good, so I don't look bad!
