I gave serious thought to the Cadillac CTS-V when I had to replace the family vehicle.

0-60 4 seconds. Check.
556 HP/551 lb-ft torque. Check.
Magnetic Ride suspension. Check.
Brembo Brakes. Check.
Recaro Seats. Check.
G-Meter. Check.
6-Speed Manual. Check
Comes in Red. Priceless.

Another really great choice! Those will be worth some serious $$$ when they pass through MACUM auto auction in 30 years.

Wow I saw one of these yesterday, when picking up food. The exhaust sound was amazing--I was overwhelmed in fact when he started it up because it looked like a...station wagon...even though I saw the AMG badge. So I heard it start up and was just amazed.

I hope to be a future Lambo/Ferrari owner, who wouldn't right? I'm currently in an Audi R8.

I've had a few cars, from Porsche 911 to MBZ CLS550, all over the spectrum - when it comes to personal preference on "performance" I think it is just that - personal preference. I picked the FR-S as a track and fun weekend toy that was easy on the pocketbook in case anything broke, it's fun to throw around and such an analog experience. This may not be for everyone, but it works for me as is. If I wanted something to just destroy at the track I'd scoop a Lotus Exige or GTR for that matter. Again, comes down to personal preference. I'll eventually add mods to the FR-S which is inevitable, making it a true trackday vehicle.

As for future direction, I am inclined to stay with Japanese sports cars. And I must say the future is looking good with the revival of the NSX and the Supra, and perhaps S2000 and RX-7 later on.

Waiting to see the revival of the Supra, RX7, and NSX!

I'd say MR2 or a Porsche. Cars that are fun to drive and are able to be daily drivers.

Miura

Nice to see a few GT86 / Miura fans here. The Miura has been my all time fav since forever. I doodled its profile not long after I could draw. I've seen Jay Leno in his Miura and I read the Adam Corolla has one in his living room as an art piece.

Owning one? Perhaps not. The expense of fabricating your own parts or trying to source the few remaining parts would be pretty prohibitive. Besides, I heard that the shared oil system is problematic and its tendency to lose traction with front end lifting at speed is alarming.

Who goes from a 370Z to a Vette? Funny C/D did refer to the Z as a japanese Corvette. I think that's being nice. Japanese Camaro is more accurate.

I feel the BRZ is like a cross between a 944 and an IROC. And those 2 cars just happened to be C/Ds best handling import and domestic cars of the 80s.

Jag F-Type! (Be a 2024 by the time I can get one)
Basic body lines on the 2015 are sort of familiar. Resemble something I can't quite put my finger on what though.

If you get a classic exotic you get classic car insurance, which is very cheap. You will drive it very little, so maintenance is minimal too if you change your own fluids.
And they appreciate rather than depreciate, so actual cost of ownership is low or zilch.

That's how years ago I wound up owning a basket case Miura. The oiling system failed catastrophically and the car spun in it's own oil into a tree. The owner was uninjured but spooked so I bought it with resto in mind. Well, life happens and it still sits in ten large crates in a barn. Someday...

You are technically correct for some models, but only if you are treating it as an investment rather than as a car.

If you are a treating it as a car (which to me means you drive it whenever the whim hits, using it for what it was intended) any vehicle will go down in value, and will require maintenance and parts will fail.

Those expensive cars you see going across auction blocks aren't really much more than expensive Pokémon cards to their owners. They buy 'em, hold 'em and trade 'em but they rarely pull them out and battle with them because if you do you might bend a corner and the value drops like a rock.

Also, Classic Car insurance is cheap for the same reason motorcycle insurance is relatively cheap. They don't really expect you to drive it much. All the garage queens pay for the rare owner that is actually uses theirs regularly.

In ONTARIO (don't know/not talking about the states so don't everybody tell me I am wrong) the "cheaper" Classic Car insurance is very restrictive of when, where and even how far you drive the car. If you have an incident outside of the very narrow policy approved parameters and the insurance company finds out then they can and likely will deny the claim.
