Because the engine sounds absolutely awful @ high rpms when completely stock. It's tinny and thrashy, and without being able to hear the stock exhaust, it sounds like your car is just crying for help. The sound tube just makes it even worse.

After axleback, headers and soundtube delete, the engine actually sounds good now. You hear the induction combined with the rumble from the exhaust and it sounds complete.

I guess I'm just not 100% on the purpose of the sound tube in the first place. Was it placed in the car for the purpose of making more engine sound for the owner? Removing it makes the car sound more realistic?

Yeah I imagine it's an alternative to the BMW, where they play engine sounds through the speakers.

Even though the twins don't have much sound deadening.. they are still really quiet as far as engine/exhaust noise goes.. so it was probably a cheap addition to make the cabin more enjoyable in stock form.

Manufactures are pressured to reduce road noise from tires, etc.. but that reduces the nice noises from the engine as well. Thus, sound tube.

I agree with this. I miss the sound of my last V6. I feel like my BRZ sounds terrible. Can't wait to upgrade

They've had those for ages now. They're called "curb feelers" and they look awesome on any car.

Well show us how they look on your car! Do you have the static straps with reflectors hanging from your bumper and some naked lady mud flaps too!
