FRS Or?
Soo pretty much im looking for a street car that i can drive daily with a decent amount of power and really enjoyable to drive. What i think would be ideal would be the Lexus SC300/400, MK3 Toyota Supra, Toyota MK2 MR2, Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX, Nissan 370Z, and of course the Scion FRS. If anyone has any advice or know the pros/cons of any of these cars that would be great. Thanks

Edit: To head off Atropine you'd probably like the Scion over the MR2 but I think you'd like the Lexus (maybe the Nissan too) the best as you can stomp the gas and at least mildly entertain your cohorts with something more than a bunch of noise. Doubt you'd be up for the work of a Supra unless you've got cash and a good shop on hand. |

You join an 86 forum and think you wont get biased answers? Lol
That being said, the MR2 is probably the closest competitor on that list to the FRS while the lexus is going to be the most reliable. The supra is the dream car, gotta have one of those. Not sure why the mistubishi is on there though...thatll be in the shop more often than not. I voted for the FRS since im biased, but if that wasnt an option i would have voted for the MR2

Since you have supra on the list, that's what I went with. Otherwise it's obviously FRS.

For a purely street car, I think it's hard to beat a used 350z. The prices are dropping, so you can get a fully loaded one (leather, seat heaters, HIDs, Brembos, etc.) for $11-14k. Engine sounds fantastic. Smooth shifter. Good midrange torque. Great GT car for the money.
The things I didn't like about it (weight, handling, brakes, VLSD, seating position) wouldn't be an issue for street driving. The only real downside is fuel economy IMO.

My buddy has a beautiful maroon '92 Lexus SC400 with just 100k miles on it. He's only the second owner and it's his daily driver. It's a beautiful car, and we usually opt to take his car when we do day trips to Cabella's and things like that. It's more comfortable. It's quieter. The leather interior is beautiful. But he's had to replace a headlamp assembly and a water pump if I remember correctly. They were NOT cheap. Also, he's becoming annoyed by the factory wheels, the chrome appears to be peeling off and the wheel rusting(?).
My last car was a '92 MR2 with 200k miles. It was bone stock when I bought it and it had factory leather seats. I replaced the wheels and tires, belts, brakes, throttle cable and parking brake cable. Those things were all reasonably cheap, but it's a totally different car from the FR-S. The second generation MR2 doesn't handle nearly as well when pushed to it's limit. The FR-S is a very predictable car to drive at the limit and have fun with. The MR2 tends to grip the road like mad until that last 5%, at which point it's just as likely to go into an unrecoverable spin as it is to drift a few inches. The mid-engine layout is definitely not as forgiving. That said, the motor feels much more torquey and (dare I say it) sounds better. The MR2 also has that quality feel that most Japanese cars had in the '90's. The MR2 also has an odd cooling system. Be sure to check the coolant for corrosion before buying. Also be sure and check the carpet behind the seats for moisture if it's a T-top. The FR-S though, is a FUN car. It's more rewarding to drive hard if you enjoy kicking the back out occasionally, which you can do at very low speeds. The FR-S also has great fuel economy (27 average for me) a fold-flat rear seat, and (so far) relatively low maintenance costs. Not to mention an exciting aftermarket. In my humble opinion, I think the FR-S is the easiest fun car to live with on a daily basis. Good luck in your choice. :-)

All those cars (except for the FRS) you list are quite old and will need parts replaced/upkeep.
The MKIV Supra is ridiculously overpriced, and well-maintained/non-riced out GSX's are damn near impossible to find now as well. The 350z may be a good bet, but many of the early ones had aggravating oil consumption issues and alignment/tire wear problems... *Buy the FRS, get an Open Flash Tablet and Header...be happy

What do you mean by "enjoyable to drive"? Comfort? Handling? Quiet ride?
The best all-around car is an M3, given you're looking at Supras you should easily be able to afford an E46. Wonderful car that will delight you like no other on that list.

Anything with a 2JZ is bulletproof lol. With that being said, out of all the cars you named for daily driving I'd recommend the FR-S. You still get ridiculous fuel economy while still being able to have fun. Some cars on the list are arguably better than the FR-S, but for daily driving purposes the FR-S is the best candidate. |

![]() To each his own, but I don't think the MKIV Supra is overpriced. It has a classic and timeless design along with a sweet straight six ![]() OP, I would get a MKIV Supra if you can find one in your price range. They are very well built and will hold its value very well. |
