Toyota Complete CPO Guidelines
I think this may be something worth making a sticky for those looking to buy CPO. I am running through the hoops with a dealer currently, one who was using the vague guidelines on the main Scion/Toyota site to try and get me to back down.
However here are the actual guidelines/definitions for some of these things set by Toyota/Scion and should be looked at carefully and gone over for anyone looking to buy CPO http://hub.toyota.com/hub/portals/0/...%20Process.pdf Don't let a dealer tell you what they find reasonable based on the main website guidelines. Here is what Toyota expects dealers to follow. |

From that list, any 86 should never be certified lol. Noises, creaks, and rattles.

The biggest potential problem is omitted: Was it a former rental car? That's bad enough, but if it was also a rental in Guam, Hawaii or Puerto Rico, avoid at any price. The fact is that about 25%+ of all TCUV's on the West Coast fall into that category, a little less on the East Coast although I've never seen an FR-S in anyone's rental fleet. The Carfax should reveal where the vehicle was first registered.

They drove it to me at my local DMV 3 1/2 hours away. I looked over the car, noticed a few small spots but nothing huge. Later on I noticed it was a lot worse. I'm guessing the excitement of a new car and the feeling of being a bit rushed right at the DMV to get in and out made me miss some things. However its not just a used vehicle, its certified. It's held to a certain standard by corporate and its the obligation of the dealer to uphold them. What happened was basically fraud. Someone passed a car to be certified that should have never of been certified to start unless the issues were fixed. I have multiple phone calls recorded, one in which the GM of the dealership himself said he would not deny there being some truth to that when I had said I believed that some things were overlooked for the sake of selling a CPO |

Honestly when looking at CPO cars I have never found a deal good enough to warrant the risk of buying a "used" vehicle.
CPO vehicles usually are overpriced and I have never trusted the dealer being honest on what they claim to be "CPO". This thread verifies that concern. Give the car back and go buy new. It will more than likely be worth the extra $$$$$. |

Oh oh, and it mentions body panels fit. We all know our bumpers sag and half the lines don't match up.
Sticking with my original statement of an frs would never qualify for a CPO in the first place

Unfortunately I can't "give the car back" in the case of this it does not qualify under any sort of lemon law, and it would take months to reverse the process at this point as I have quite some time before I get the title for the FR-S, and it will take some time for them to finish the process on the car I traded in (going between MA and NY) They seem willing to fix the issue and repair the body. I think they know they got caught and I'm not a pushover. This is the kind of thing that could get a dealers affiliation revoked if its looked into and goes the legal route. I have more than enough proof to show negligence on their part and complete disregard for the CPO standards. |
