This.. I had a '13 tC before my FR-S. I loved the space the tC had. Im 6' and I could sit behind myself. Also put a 55" TV in the back. Its a great practical car.

I had a 2008 auto tC and now have a 2015 AT auto, both as DD.
I had the same reservations about to practicality and insurance. Adults are not going to be comfortable in the back seat, so if you'll regularly have more than one passenger you'll have problems. The decrease in cargo carrying space is pretty noticeable, but I feel like the tC had more than normal. I do really miss the grocery bag hooks in the trunk. I've had my FRS for a month and have fun driving it every time I'm in it. That never happened with the tC, so I believe the tradeoff was worth it. And as a bonus my insurance went down about $10 per month. |

My insurance was less when I made the switch. Everything is better about the car. The first thing I loved was the slight rotation feeling when you turn.
The only thing worse is the doors don't unlock if you pull the handle from the inside |

I still have my '12 TC until I get into a FRS/BRZ. It's a great car for what it is, a sporty hatchback. I've loved it in the two years I've had mine. 10x more fun than my previous Corolla. Not the best on gas, but I can load all kinds of stuff into this tiny car. I know I'll miss that.

I had two gen1 TCs when they first came out. I totalled the first one. The car was fun, got good gas mileage and had the "social space" that was great for a teenager. It was also a good price. It was toyotas answer to the civic si. My second one was turbo and had tein coilovers with r spec rubber. That car was fun. But had the worst torque steer of anything I have ever driven and still wasn't much more than a loud ricer that cornered great as long as you didn't touch the throttle.
The frs is lighter, stiffer, out handles and out drives the TC. Its more expensive than my gen 1 by 10,000$ too, and its rwd. Its toyotas answer to the miata and can go up against much much more expensive cars when built properly. Stock frs gets better mileage than my tc did. Mine is turbo and can hold its own against some cars that would have scared the doors off my built tc. What do I miss? Burnouts with the e brake on, and the fact that the seat goes back where I set it after moving it forward. Also that time I had two girls in my "social space."

I've owned more than one of both cars and still own one of each of them.
Both cars have their advantages and disadvantages the tC has more space vs the FR-S just try getting a big screen tv in a FR-S. In my opinion most young people think the FR-S is the greatest car ever to be made because there's not many affordable RWD cars made nowadays and it's their first RWD car. For us older guys it's more about the FR-S's styling along with the RWD that makes it appealing or the fact we owned the older 86's and loved them. The bottom line is they are both Toyota designed cars made for different uses. For the people that think the tC is a "grocery getter" don't drag race a tC2 with a Dezod turbo kit as you might not like the out come. In closing my 10 Series FR-S will be traded in on the FR-S RS 1.0 and I'll be keeping my current 10 Series tC. My current tC.

I've never owned a TC, but I liked the looks of the earlier models and always saw them as the spiritual successors to my old 87 Celica coupe. But the gas mileage was way too poor for the power and when I recently had the chance to drive one I thought the clutch and shifter felt very rubbery compared to the FR-S.
While the extra space might be nice on occasion, it's not a necessity for me and the FR-S is just such a great drive on the road and the track. |

My 2008 tC has a better trunk (hatches are great for loading/unloading). tC acceleration is anemic, mileage is less than stellar (at least it uses regular). tC backseat is more more spacious, tC rice paper bumpy interior plastic feels cheap compared to the FR-S. tC has cooler OEM accessories (interior lighting, supercharger, illuminated door sills, 18" wheels). FR-S has a nicer roof but tC's has a panoramic sunroof. tC steers like a boat compared to FR-S, cornering on a curved wet road with stock 17" OEM Yokohama is scarier compared to FR-S with stock Prius tires. FR-S's engine sounds like a real sporty car compare to tC. Changing spark plugs can be done on a tC with your eyes close but changing oil on a FR-S is stupid proof. FR-S has aggressive front end. tC OEM navigation dings right before a turn but FR-S has better graphics. DVD based tC OEM navi lets you swap the map disk to watch movie will you're parked. tC has a arm rest with storage. FR-S's fog lights are far apart and have a better spread. tC has a OEM sub woofer and digital sound processing whereas the new FR-S head until doesn't. The OEM tC Bluetooth add on is craptastic compared the the integrated FR-S offering. So far the tC is built like a tank.

Someone needs to school you. The Scion tC is made by Toyota on a "Toyota Avensis" platform and sold around the world as a "Toyota Zelas" so with that said it's a Toyota. Now I'm sorry to say this but the FR-S is also a Scion in the states so live with it. btw @Chad86 you also own a Scion FR-S not a FT86 buddy.

In addition to that, the tC is more of a true Toyota than the twins. |

Mine's a Subaru. I refuse to acknowledge that it has anything to do with Scion. As far as I'm concerned, it's a joint venture between Subaru and Toyota that Toyota inexplicably decided to market in the US under its budget/starter car brand.
