Holy crap - I would lose my mind with a rattle like that. I had my first brand-new car ('97 Cavalier Z24 - I know, I know - P.O.S.) bought back because it had a far less severe rattle than that coming from the dash and GM bought it back.

Kartboy should be concerned.

Like I said I don't have any issues with mine. Doesn't rattle with stock or aftermarket shift knob.

(Video of my shifter below)

I think something is wrong with your kartboy.

That's cool - like I said - I know every single one out there doesn't make noise so I am sure your's doesn't. Mine did and neither they nor the shop could sort it out. So - I will figure something different out.

I'll still make another video just so others can understand. I wish I had an answer to fix the problem but honestly I don't know how a short shifter that is manufactured the same is giving people different results. The only thing that I can think of is an error when installing the short shifter or maybe a manufacturing issue. I'm not trying to point fingers just my opinion.

I can't see it being an installer error. It was done by a good shop. They spent an additional 3 hours trying to make the thing quiet with replacement parts sent out by Kartboy.

I get that certain frequencies can vary from car to car and cause it to behave differently. But - I don't think the shifter should be susceptible to rattling at any frequency produced by the vehicle. If the stock shifter can be made quiet - the aftermarket shifters should be too. It could be a manufacturing defect in some batches, it could be a QC issue, could be a design issue with the BRZ version, who knows. But this is not an isolated incident and it sucks.

PS - you can hear it go almost dead silent when I step on the gas at 1.5 seconds.

I wish kartboy would step in this thread and help solve this issue. We need to figure out why some cars have this issue and others do not.

I am really bummed the TWM didn't work right out of the box. The shop knew that if it even rattled a bit I wasn't going to leave it in so I didn't even get to try it out. I may try again with that brand. It is beautiful. If it is just missing an O ring - I may try.

I don't get how you can put in so much R/D and not bother to take a peek at how the folks with the buzzillion dollar R/D depts did it. Meaning Toyota/Subaru.

Whatever. I will add the mtech springs and see how that pans out.
I seriously doubt that your issue is with multiple shifter manufacturer's. Your either getting the vibration from an installation error or vibration sent up from your exhaust hanger. You should stop blaming other people and get under your car and start troubleshooting. I would try to use some rubber gaskets at the exhaust hanger to try to insolate that area of contact or look for any metal on metal contact. I'm not saying that's your issue but it could be a possibility.

Like my post on the first page , I have to TWM shifter and every linkage bushing plus spings and transmission mounts with very little whine and a little vibration in neutral. Something is wrong.

If you live in N California I can check it out for you.

Ah ha. That's a new and good call - the hangers are stiffer and provided by Nameless when I put on their exhaust. I am not "blaming" anyone. I have only pointed out that both brands rattle and the stock one doesn't and that this is a flaw.

TWM also says theirs is "rattle proof" - a bold statement when in fact it can indeed rattle.

It is NOT an installation error. The guys that work(ed) on it are pros and have done a ton of these.

Who knows what the shifter would do with engine and tranny mounts. Probably explode.

I will revisit the STS install later. For now, I am enjoying the stock silence. I will probably try the mtechs and also see how it feels after the trans fluid is swapped.
