My TWM is quiet as a church mouse. I read a post back when I was shopping for my shifter, it may have been over on the Z-car forums. A shop had installed 4 or 5 shifters on the same car and they all rattled. When the exact same shifters were installed on an identical car, none rattled. They concluded that on some cars aftermarket shifters would rattle no matter what and had no idea why.

Sadly, if you google this problem you will find folks complaing about it for nearly every type of vehicle. It had me pretty stressed out when making my decision, guess I got lucky.

Never had any noise issues from my Kartboy shifter. Had probably 5/6000 miles of track and street driving with it and its smooth and noiseless.

I actually got a not back from TWM. They say that some of the shifter can go out the door without an important "O" ring that is present in the reverse lockout mechanism. They have offered to send one out. I told the dealer to just keep the shifter and return it. However, I am going to swing by there and verify if the ring is present or not. Without the o ring - it will rattle.

We shall see - again

Oh wow, that's waaaaaay worse than my TRD lol. My Quickshifter is barely audible over the engine. Don't think you could hear it on a video.

I did! I wanted people to see what I am talking about. Not just being picky - it totally ruined the driving experience. I am so glad it is back to stock silence right now.

I am really bummed the TWM didn't work right out of the box. The shop knew that if it even rattled a bit I wasn't going to leave it in so I didn't even get to try it out. I may try again with that brand. It is beautiful. If it is just missing an O ring - I may try.

I don't get how you can put in so much R/D and not bother to take a peek at how the folks with the buzzillion dollar R/D depts did it. Meaning Toyota/Subaru.

Whatever. I will add the mtech springs and see how that pans out.

Holy Crap at that rattle! There's no way it should rattle like that. My KartBoy shifter and rear bushing , 3" aluminum driveshaft, MTEC springs are for the most part silent except a little gear wine on deceleration.

That has to be an installation issue.

What's your opinion of the kartboy short shifter vs the trd short shifter. Personally I have had the kartboy for sometime and it barley rattles at all. My problem with the short shifter is that it is too short. I was debating whether to put the stock one back in or replace it for the trd. Opinions?

Something is very wrong. My kartboy is not even close to that in terms of rattle.

I heard basically the same thing from another BRZ. Maybe at 85% the sound of mine.

The thing is - there should be NO rattle - just like the stock shifter.
