Cosworth Air Filter Review - Horrible Fitment
It's pretty hard to screw up an air filter, but somehow Cosworth did. The fitment is just horrible. I was switching from a K&N Oiled filter to a dry filter.
(and yes I have taken the airbox out several times and have properly inserted after market filters before.) Plain and simple box with "Genuine" Cosworth seal stickers. ![]() Has some pretty blue coloring: ![]() This is the first thing that got me, the filter media is a little thin where it meets this corner and has me worried over longevity: ![]() Then this got me, this is kinda crappy because the rubber ring in some parts wasn't cut right or just had some weird deviations in it: ![]() That rubber ring will come back and haunt you however because the filter doesn't sit right in the box. It is as if the filter is too short long ways just a bit; as it will either fit in the left OR the right groove but not both. ![]() Therefore ultimately leading to an airbox that doesn't seal. (just held shut at this point because I didn't want to force things.) ![]() That said I put my stock filter back in as I had already sold my K&N to my neighbor. Aesthetics: 7/10 Fit and Finish: 2/10 Performance Gains: N/A - I didn't run it in the car because it wouldn't seal. Recommended: No Overall Value: 4/10 If I were to have bought the Cosworth stage 1.X kit and gotten this filter I would have felt extra sore. |

Is it possible it was for the wrong vehicle? (Or a packaging issue- wrong filter, right box) Have others had the same issue? Cosworth is usually top notch, I wonder if it's actually a bad design or just a production/packaging/shipping error.

SAME! I have the Coswarth air filter and it doesn't fit either. I've been running mine for a few thousand miles. I took the rubber seal off (even though you're not supposed to) and it fit a bit better but still doesn't seal. Oh well, going turbo in a few months so I'll just leave it

Installer error, sorry to tell you.
It is a very tight fit, which is what you want. They fit perfect. I'm on my 3rd, all three took some effort but that's because it's such a perfect/tight fit. It pretty much takes removing both sides of the box, installing the filter in the box making sure the orientation is correct (they only go in one way), seal it up and reinstall the box as one piece. If you want loose, easy install and therefor leaky intake try another brand. |

Installed mine a few months ago. Took me over an hour as I needed to unbolt both halves of the airbox or otherwise the filter is too thick to wedge in. No issues with fitment.

This may just be an isolate issue or a problem with a run. The thing is, the filter doesn't even site right with just trying to situate it on one half of the airbox. Like there is no way to get it to sit on both of the grooves. So if it won't sit on one half, trying to fit both side of the box onto it will be fruitless.
It's not clamping the box shut so much as it didn't even fit on one side that it should rest in; hence the next to last picture. |
