Good wet/dry tires? - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

After having the front end slide out on me a bit going from 217 to 26 this morning I'm wondering what you guys use for tires that are decent in the wet and dry? I've had the Toyo T1-S on a previous car and really liked them (best wet weather tire I think I've ever had) but Toyo doesn't make it anymore and the only place to get Toyo locally is Les Schwab so there are no deals to be had anyway.

Michelin.
Pilot A/S 3 for all-season.
Pilot SuperSport for summer.

^ that. I am in north east and use PSS for dry/wet street and wet track in warm months. Winter tires on stock rims when temps fall below 45F. Toyo Proxes RA1 for dry and wet on track, wet only when (near) new at 9/32 full tread.

Being the cheap SOB that I am, I'm going with Nitto NeoGen's when the OEM tires give up the ghost. I have them on my MR2 Spyder. They have decent grip in both wet and dry conditions, though I wouldn't recommend them for snow or ice. They carry a UTQG of 280, and have provided comparable wear to similar Bridgestone, Toyo, and Falkens I've had on it in the past. The best thing is that they are about 2/3's the price of Miclelins!

I'm kind of cheap that way too. I'll make sure to take a look at the NeoGens when it's time.

That's true, to a point. When I had my VFR everyone said I was crazy to use Shinko tires on it (which were half the price of the Michelins that everyone raved about). I went through two sets of Shinkos, got almost 10k miles out of each set, and they did everything I needed them to do. If I buy a tire that's far more capable than I am then I'm just wasting money.

I never hear anyone on the forum having these, but they are working well for me. They were on sale at tirerack for cheap.

Bridgestone RE-11 for non-freezing months. Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60 for times around freezing.

As long as you're never going to drive in snow get the Michelin Pilot Super Sports. They're a bit more than most performance tires up front but you can expect to get 40k miles out of them and they handle track driving amazingly.

I'm pretty sure I had those on one of my previous vehicles (I think it was my Miata). Costco had them available and the Michelins were back-ordered forever so I decided to give them a shot. Personally, I didn't care for them. I found them noisy and a little greasy (at least for my driving style). YMMV obviously.

I don't care about track driving but getting 40k out of a set of performance tires is appealing. Most tires I've put on my Miatas have only lasted me half that mileage.

According to the TireRack tests and my previous experience with them the best Performance tires (for street use of course) in the wet is Michelin Pilot Super Sports followed by AS3s.. I haven't tried A/S 3 s but many people seem to be loving them

GY Asymmetric 2's, in that same review as the PSS. PSS's are a little better in the dry, the GY's were best in the wet. You can get the GY's significantly cheaper than the PSS too.
