If @ineedboost wants to send me a STEP or Parasolid of his design, I could overlay it with @Wonderbar aka Driveway Labs design, and we can see how close the designs are? I can toss in the design I started, before seeing the DWL v2 too?

This would be the CAD version of the bike rack after school, lol

Ok, so let's say they are different. Or, let's say they followed unique process and ended up at similar conclusions... now you have thier blue prints and can produce both products?

I get you're a fanboy for Driveway Labs, but that's not really going to solve things for either party. A) sending either party to the other creates bias and B) Sending it to a nuetral party distributes intellectual property.

I'll sign a NDA for all parties involved. I'll place all CAD data in common 3D space, and provide views, and JT data for all to review, and let you all decide if they are the same or not.

I'll chime in on this once.

OP is making is rear diffuser for himself. Some say, it look the same, some say it doesn't look the same, some say who give a shit.

As a member point of view.
If he copy the design &/or got an partial idea from whoever's design it, he should credit the original designer out of respect. I, for one, hate ppl stealing my design & not crediting me. Just simply say "I like your design & I'm kinda making also same design one for myself & myself only not planning to sell to make $. Hope that's okay."

I talk w wonderbar good amount, he's chill & not scary. I'm pretty sure he won't bite anyone's head of... BUT that's just saying "IF" you got an idea from his design.

As a mod point of view.
If he like the design & local weld shop making multiple of these & thinking bout selling it here, make sure to become vendor. Cuz our admin will ban you quickly & without hesitation.

As for other members, chill out a bit.

Having had designs patented in the past, though, despite the American litigation happy culture, I really do not see what a Lawyer could do for Wonderbra, apart from taking a lot of the money he has made from selling his diffuser through FT86 SpeedFactory. The level of fanboy support for Worderbra is admirable, but the reality is, anyone can copy his design exactly, and there is absolutely nothing he, or anyone else can do about it. If he wanted to patent any aspect of it, it should have been done before any form of public showing of the design, and it would have had to be proven that the aspects of the design patented were sufficiently unique to justify patent protection. A simple mounting bracket using a logical mounting point does not qualify as this, I am afraid.

Show SOME respect. Carl (Wonderbar NOT Wonderbra) should be given some credit for his ORIGINAL design, which prompted this knock-off. Everyone wants a piece of the pie. Some individuals are showing their true colors. Just sayin'

Good on ya Carl! I'm behind you. Love my diffuser!

Alright, Look... I was trolling to fuel a fire. I thoguht it was hilarious that so many people are blowing up about this. I've actually talked to both sides via private messages and I appreciate the work it took to design, recreate, and / or install the work. I don't care which side is which, but when you have a 13 hour day, sometimes it's funny to troll enough to get the fire going.

I meant zero malice and was just being an asshole. I noted every post that was written to stir the pot a little with the popcorn man. I do have a lot of respect for the DWL diffuser and research it took to make it. I am also excited, being in the same town, to see the "Copy". Like I said before, I am looking to create my own and if they are doing it right (Which the DWL has the research to back as more than show) then that is what I am chasing after as my end product.
@Wonderbar - As stated before, I do apologize if I rubbed you off as wrong. Was just being a ****.
I have a lot of respect for the research you put into the creation of your product because I am about a month in or so and realized quickly is was harder than I originally anticipated.
@ineedboost - Weather you copied or created, I got respect for the fact that you built what you did. If created, then you keep doing you. If copied, then credit where it is do. But either way, you've certainly done more than I have to get the part you want on your car as all of mine is still paper drawings and R/D work. Sorry I was stirring the pot, bro

this is a joke.

OP nice! i always like making my own stuff. and driveway labs, dude your diffuser is BASIC. its not like the CLEib where there is an actual design and etc. yours is flat with fins. any one can make it and it will ALWAYS look similar.

as for the "i'm seeing a lawyer" comment, just shows how little you actually know.

not trying to stir the pot but people online REALLY need to get a grip of themselves. you dont see me bitching at people who are getting their front ends shaved like i did on my car, or if people are doing the centerconsole relocation etc like i did or even if people do hte pull straps i did, i'll be happy to help instead of bitch and moan, things like this can always be best settled privately, now you look like a tool and driveway labs name gets dragged through the mud... ts a community, hell maybe you two can get together and make an even better version of these two combined...but at the end of the day, its a flat piece of metal with bends (not trying to be a ****). there's only so many ways to make a flat piece of metal attach to the back of the brz and look/function like a diffuser.

Let's be honest, there is nothing special about a bent piece of sheet metal.

I'm not interested in getting in a pissing match on the internet so here is all I'll say.

Overall shape - this was dictated by the car itself. It extends as far back as possible without interfering with the suspension. On the sides it fits neatly between the two existing fins.

Fins - The number and placement wouldn't make sense any other way. Obviously, there are two fins on either end. The two in the middle line up with the faux diffuser on the rear bumper, and the other two are evenly spaced between. Why do it any other way?

Mounting - Yes, I used the same mounting points. Again, it's the same car with the same mounting options is it really that surprising that we are both using the easiest ones?

This isn't meant to be an attack on anyone, but there is nothing special/proprietary about a simple sheet metal diffuser.
Quoted because people fail at logic.

Can you please explain how wonderbar does not need to be a vendor?

Why does jamesm need to be a vendor? Why was crawford banned?

The point I was trying to make earlier - definitely some double standards going on here

The way Wonderbra and his fan club are carrying on, you would swear that the Driveway lab diffuser is some miraculous feat of engineering, not a simple piece of aluminium with a couple of bits pop riveted on

To each their own, I suppose
