I didn't flood any, it was other people behind me. Sorry I wasn't clear on the what I learned part. It was kind of a (poor) joke on how the frs can go through so much water and survive

If I'm wrong, others here will be quick to bitch-slap me.

Putting myself in your.... er, waders, I would quickly get busy removing the seats and carpet to rinse and lay them out in the sun. Once that stink sets in, there's no way to get rid of it, IMHO.

Don't rinse the seats, though. Delicate electronic wizardry enclosed.

My wife's Mazda3 got stuck in a flash flood and the interior had about 4" of water in it. I used a wet/dry vac to get as much water out of it as possible, then switched the vac over into "blower" mode and left the tube blowing air onto the carpets with all the windows rolled down. It's been 6 years since that happened and the car is perfectly fine. The key is to remove as much water as possible and keep air circulating to dry out the rest ASAP before any mold can form.

Take the seats/carpet out, dry with a towel and leave the Windows cracked for while. If you don't your car is going to smell like a wet towel

the biggest issue for me is getting rid of that damp smell that persists after a long time even after the car is dry

Like this person said, use a shop vac to get as much out as you can. Once you're no longer pulling water out of the upholstery get a dehumidifier and use that to pull the remaining water out of all the places you cant get to with a shop vac.

http://www.homedepot.com/b/Heating-V...s/N-5yc1vZc4l8

Plug it in while it's in the front seat (make sure it's standing upright otherwise the water will drain right back into your car), close the door as best you can and leave it on until it's no longer pulling water out of the atmosphere in your car. You'll likely have to empty the dehumidifier several times.

Good luck!
