Kart boy shifter issues
Hey so I just recently installed a kart boy shifter and was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem. I don't remember noticing and side to side horizontal play when in gear with the stock shifter, but now when I'm in gear I can move side to side almost as much as when I'm in neutral. I have it apart and the shift fork looks as it did when It was stock. Everything points to it being the shifter, and it's not a drive ability issue as it won't come out of gear, but I'm wondering if this happened to anyone else. I have a hard time believing it's the shifter and think it's something I did on the install. any ideas?

I thought the same when I installed my kartboy, but alas the slop was always there. Try out a friends car for piece of mind.

Yes it was. Note that when most install the short shifter - they are also doing the shifter bushing. This only magnifies the sensation of the slop that the stock rubber bushings hid well.
The MTEC shifter springs address this side to side looseness. But I have not decided if I care enough to do that yet. I just installed my Raceseng Hybrid shift knob which I LOVE over the stock one. Feels great - I like it more than the flossy knob my buddy has as the delrin outer feel matches the kartboy reverse lockout ring feel as well.

Is it just me or does downshifting into second with the Kart boy SS seem A LOT harder than with the stock shifter? I've only installed the Kart Boy SS and nothing else, not even the MTEC Springs or rear shifter bushings that came with the Short Shifter. Perhaps if I install the bushings, would I be able to rev-match- downshift into second easier? To restate it, what's the point of the rear shifter bushing?

How long you have it in there? It was tough at first and smoothed out after a couple weeks of use.
The springs are only to make the wiggling of the shifter in the neutral state stiffer and increases resistance when shifting it to the left or right. The rear shifter bushing makes the whole shifting process much firmer - thus often times the NVH goes up with that bushing installed.

I have a buddy with stock shifter and flossy knob. The slop is there stock. It is masked by the stock rubber rear shifter bushing which is often changed out when installing short shifters.
MTEC shifter springs if you want that gone.
