Rolling coal is a common practice. Whether is is to get better mileage and or power or just to be an asshat.

I don't really care what the motivation was to do it, just that it is an abhorrent practice.

I find your reference to my "butthurt" both offensive and unnecessary.

Good day sir.

Except that diesel trucks will do this without mods purposely to do so. The concept of doing it to be an asshole is one thing, excess diesel fuel going out the exhaust is another.

An asshat redneck tried to roll coal on me. Walking out of a grocery store I noticed said asshat start to sprint to his jacked truck. Jumped in turned away from the exit so he could pass by my car. Stomped on it just as he passed by. I got in and backed up in plenty of time to avoid the cloud. Stopped and watched as he turned around and headed for the exit proving he did it deliberately and even went out of his way. To those who say it's a stereotype then why is it always a white male? Redneck, period. M is for the mudflaps I put on my truck. O is for the oil I put on my hair. T is for Texas. H is for Haggard. E is for everything else I do wrong and R, R is for REDNECK.

Plenty of rednecks here in 'commiefornia'

Seen a handful of lifted trucks rolling coal, never bothered to interview them to see what stereotype they fit into.

It's not any different than donk, stance, hellaflush, ricers, drifters, muscle car meatheads, or obsessive garage queens. It's a fad, it's a minority of diesel owners and it will pass, maybe a couple citations here or there that will seem silly and outdated 50 years from now.

Really sucks because it hurts the idea of diesel becoming a viable fuel in this country, I think diesel has a better shot at giving us complete energy independence than the electric car. Plus it's a byproduct of some cool automotive enthusiasm, I'd hate for it to get shut down for the wrong reasons...

Never been too interested in drag racing, but a four door truck pulling 10.7 second quarter mile is impressive no matter what you're into.

There's a crazy load of advanced electric vehicles in Europe; Germany is going crazy for e-bikes, and Volvo has this thing, why can't we get all these cool cars in the USA? There's only a trickle of this stuff coming over to our market.

LOL @ this thread.. "Rolling coal" is just a byproduct of tuning large diesel engines. If your going for max hp gains, you gotta delete the particulate filters, just like how we get rid of our cats on cars.. Fun fact: Diesel only burns clean on a VERY conservative tune.. I have never once intentionally smoked out someone, but Im willing to admit its happened when I wasnt that aware of my surroundings.. Did I deserve a ticket? Maybe, but its worth the 673hp my truck makes.. "Rolling coal" isnt a custom tune for that purpose, anyone who owns a diesel truck knows this, its just a fun side effect of more straight-line fun than most people with tuner cars can even imagine. All this being said, for every "nice" diesel truck guy who isnt an asshat, it seems like theres about 3 fucktards. And thats why Ive never been to a truck event, but Im a regular at our weekly FR-S/BRZ meet..better odds of meeting someone Ill like..

I have no issue with "rolling coal" until it's used offensively in public because some degenerate shitbag thinks it's funny or wants to be a ****head. I've been on the motorcycle a couple times where some huge lifted brotruck comes rolling up next to me (or as I pass them) and next thing I know I have a face full of diesel exhaust that I can't avoid because motorcycle. Every time I see the guy (or guys) looking in their rear views.

At the strip, some event or whatever, do what you want, make your truck as fast as you want and roll more coal than a train, I'm fine with that. Some of these trucks are pretty badass... Just show some respect and don't fucking roll coal in my face.

Comparing this to stance, muscle car meatheads, drifters, ricers, etc, is wrong. Sure those guys may be annoying, but at least they aren't targeting people and blasting them with diesel suit.

Rolling coal refers to intentionally shooting smoke into people's faces or their cars.

No one here is mad that diesels occasionally shoot out smoke.

It entirely has to do with the douchebag aspect of purposely being an asshat.

I "rolled coal" back in the 1982. Only it was with my family's Olds Diesel wagon (gold with wood). The exhaust was out the curb side, and by timing it right I could slip the car into "N", stomp the gas and engulf bike riders, joggers and walkers in a thick cloud.

Great to see history repeat.

No. Only someone who doesnt know the truck scene or didnt grow up "rolling coal" with your buddies would think this. Im not saying that smoking someone out isnt the most annoying way, but where I grew up, it was smoking out an intersection so that nobody could see anything, traffic lights,cross-traffic,dotted lines,etc.. I say if it helps curb the fucktards, more power to them.. But I also think that believing this law will have even a tiny effect on coal rollers, is delusional..
