I own a BRZ, but have the TRD Quick Shifter installed. For now I can't recreate the situation (transmission is working fine today), but would Subaru deny my claim since I have the Quick Shifter installed? It is a Scion-sanctioned part though...(fortunately I have all the original components, including the original rubber shift boot).
To be honest, this fix has no TSB released so its prettu much depending on the dealer. I would swap out for original just to increase your chances of getting a replacement

I had the same problem on my FR-S at 6000 miles. Brought my car to my local Toyota service department and got confirmation on a brand new replacement transmission a week later. So far I've put 10,000 miles on replacement transmission and no grinds.

Is it grinding, or was it hard to throw it in gear. I feel the resistance. Seems like its the problem you don't realize it exists, but when you notice it, you cannot ignore it.

Well, I believe I will join the ranks of those with transmission issues.

My car makes a scrunching noise going from 3rd into 4th gear. Like described earlier in the thread, its not a gear grinding noise like when you miss a shift, but you can hear it (slip, maybe), and can feel it. It happens when the car goes into 4th, not coming out of 3rd. it is more noticeable at higher revs, but is not isolated to high revs. It started maybe 500 miles ago and i am now at 6,500

Threads like these are good to hold on to for people going into try and get a new tranny. As a form of "proof" that it is "known" problem.

I referenced a thread here when the service manager asked how I came apon the TSB for the fuel pump. Real good to have a record showing that more than one or two people are having the problem.

Just wondering how long my tranny will hold up before it goes. Can i just get new / better / upgraded synchros?

Its sad that with 14k miles, I'm experiencing something that never happened in my 01 IS300 with 200K or even back in a day in my 1990 hyundai excel, I've put 140k lol

I have this problem from 2nd to 3rd (around 40-50) and going into 5th as well. it's like pressing against an accordian but you feel like it's mashing into something inside. And yes only above 65mph.

I have to confirm, but damn this is bad. I will have toyota look at this.

I have a problem shifting from 3rd to 4th with mine. Only grinds when you shift around 3500rpm or higher, granny shifting or speed shifting. The car currently has 20,100 miles on it. Since the mechanic was able to recreate the grind, they are keeping my car overnight to see what they can do.

First I thought it was only me being a new manual driver. Now I think I'd better take the car in and have them check it.

To update my situation, Toyota replaced my transmission under warranty. By the time Toyota got in contact with my dealer, they overnighted the transmission and had my car back on the road the next day. Trannys shifting smooth as I'm going through the break in period again.

I've been dealing with the N-1, 1-2, 2-1, 3-2 shifting combination problems for nearly one year. After engine break-in, it began getting worse and almost un-driveable in the very cold winter last year. My original dealer, Ardmore Toyota (Philly), failed to follow through with the problem. I've started with a new dealer who finally got the problem documented and will evaluate it when the temperatures start to drop. The low gears have started getting stiff to engage now, but haven't quite altogether refused like they did last winter.

Once the trans is fully warmed up (might take a full 30 min. commute to warm up), it can return to "normal". Normal I have found still includes the occasional stiffness getting fully engaged into gear - even in summer.

As for 3-4, 4-5 or 6-5, I don't have a regular problem, but have had it occur where the clutch is fully depressed and the gear will buzz. Usually this occurs is in a low gear.

Looking forward to some actual solutions from Toyota. They have parts on-hand waiting to install to resolve the occasional squeaky driver's window and a fuel pump. I have the Gen 2 pump. Allegedly, the Gen 3/4 pump (with sound proofing cover) will be available this month.

After reading through here I might just have to stop by a dealer and get them to check my car out..

I am at 22K and twice now in the last week I have had this issue of going from N to 1st with the clutch in and when I let out the clutch there is a horrendus grinding sound from the transmission not being fully engaged into first. It almost is acting like it is popping out because I could swear on both occasions I had put it fully into first.

Also on the whole 5th gear issue a lot of times my 5th gear feels like it is vibrating the whole time im in it but the trans feels smooth in 4th and 6th. And I have also experienced grinding going from 6th to 5th that I thought was my fault but each time it seemed like it didnt want to go into gear with a moderate amount of throw.

Do you guys think I should stop by a dealer? I have a feeling I would fail at recreating the problem..
