Dr. G's statement is not technically correct either. None of the "regular" car wash products contain soap, they use detergents - it is not the same thing. He also states that there is nothing in them that removes dirt, which is also incorrect and a ridiculous statement. How else would we have been able to clean our cars (or ourselves) for the last 100+ years? </rant>

Don't get me wrong, I'm not refuting the effectiveness of ONR. It may be the greatest product ever, I haven't tried it.
I think his (Dr. G's) statement is correct. And you are right......cheap soaps (usually OTC) contain detergents (thus low price). As a result they may remove wax/paint sealant after a few washes. More expensive soaps contain cleaning agents that are gentle and usually derived from more expensive raw materials (thus higher price).

Also soaps don't remove dirt, a wash mitt does. Soaps' purpose is not to remove dirt, its purpose is to act as lubricant b/w paint and wash media (think of wet shaving, especially Glycerin) and in some cases encapsulate dirt. The only soaps that remove dirt w/o touching are low pH or high pH (think of touchless car washes).

I think what he's trying to say is, soap doesn't release dirt particles as good as ONR.

I thought the whole point of touchless car washes was that the pressure put on by the hoses was so strong that it imitates the physical act of scrubbin and didn't require a mitt to rub on it?

Sucks Ken, gonna piece it back together or just get a different type?

Maybe you should buy a few spares next time.

Update on repairs: Quoted at a little over 9 grand to fix everything. Almost a full suspension rebuild on front and back left side + wheels + front bumper repairs.

Lesson learned: 45km/h + 6"+ curb don't mix, let the person hit you so they are at fault.
