need help with a crunching sound

hi guys,

need your help with a strange noise . . .

i'm getting a brief "crunchy click" sound when initially depressing the accelerator after the car is engaged in gear. (clutch released)

the best way i can describe the sound is almost like a branch breaking. it occurs in all gears but most frequently in 6th at freeway speeds. the sound is most consistently reproducible if i let off the gas and then depress the accelerator at around 2700-3000 rpm. repeatedly doing this causes the sound to get louder.

i have had the car at the dealer and they are unable to determine the source of the sound, they have assured me that its nothing serious. i'm just not convinced . . .

i'm grateful for your help.

Is it right after upshift, release clutch, get back on throttle? I get a brief aluminum on aluminum sound right being a little aggressive with throttle after upshifting or when aggressive throttle blipping for rev match down shifts.

it seems to be independent of shifting . . . the times i notice it the most are on the freeway and i let off the gas for whatever reason then start the accelerate . . . i hear a crunch. it is consistently reproducible by doing this, i.e. letting off the gas completely and then gently accelerating. it occurs just as i hit the throttle lasting a second or so.

Just got hold of my series blue two weeks ago and I also I experience this same problem. Depressing the accelerator more smoothly helps in lower gears, but I always experience it when letting off the gas then engaging again while in the higher gears. Any luck with finding a solution or what is causing this noise?

No luck with a solution … had the car at the dealer several times with no clear explanation. The most recent dealer explanation is that the car is "knocking" secondary to using 91 octane as opposed to the recommended 93 which we can't get. I'm not sure I buy that … it's such a strange noise. Let me know if you find something out with yours… thanks
