So last night at 3am my car was broken into. I just walked outside and saw 3 of my neighbors cars have been broken into as well. Thankfully for me there was no damage done except to the head unit.
I'm puzzled how they were able to get into my car without setting the factory alarm off. The ONLY thing I can think of is that when the dealership recently replaced my NAV unit they didn't activate the factory alarm again. I don't know if replacing the head unit would've caused the factory alarm to be disabled, but when I first purchased the car enabling the factory alarm was one of the first things I did. From the looks of my car there was no forced entry. No scratches, no broken windows...nothing. They were only able to grab the face of the head unit. The rest of the radio is still in there. lol Also, they took my 8" sub and amp from the trunk. THANKFULLY I hadn't installed my OEM Audio system yet!!! I was waiting until Friday to do that...so that sub was gonna get replaced anyways. As much as it sucks, I'm trying to see the positive side of things. Head units are about $300 from these forums...and I was planning on giving my sub to my gf for free...so really no loss there. Anyways, gonna message some people on the forums to find a BRZ Head unit, gonna get my OEM Audio installed this Friday, and then I guess while I'm at it I'm going to look into a bad ass alarm system. I got home around 2am last night and my neighbor said she ran off the thief at 3am when she caught him braking into her car. The thief was able to break into 4 cars in less than an hour...without alerting anyone until the end. Be careful and keep your cars safe!!

I garage park my car at my apartment and if I have to park in a lot, I park in a well lit area. that won't stop a determined thief, but it does help deter. I would beat the ever living crap out of some dude breaking into my car and I'm not typically a violent person.

FYI, I just double checked to see if the factory alarm was enabled and it definitely was enabled. I'm 100% sure that the doors were locked. You can even see where the thief used some kind of tool to pry through the passenger window to open the door.
I guess the factory alarm must suck since it didn't even work.

I know if you open the door while the factory alarm is set then it will trigger, but if you hit the Unlock button inside on the door does that disable the factory alarm? I was always under the impression that you needed the key fob to unarm the alarm. I'll have to do my own tests to see how that works. The good things are that I'm already taking my car in to get repaired today, and the police said they have a good amount of evidence and fingerprints left behind on all of the vehicles. I can't wait till they catch this idiot.

Check into a Viper 5901 system. I had one on my last car and it was great. Also, feel free to PM me if you have any questions on the OEM+ install. Don't do it without panel removing tools

It's awesome Progressive covers up to $1,000 of personal upgrades to the vehicle without me needing to do anything extra. I'm thinking when I get my OEM Audio installed I'll bump up the coverage. For a few more bucks a month I can cover up to $5,000 in aftermarket upgrades. I was really expecting to fight with them about covering the cost of my sub, but they've been very helpful. They've put me in a Mustang for now. It's...large. lol
