Nice. Which dealer are you at? I've been into a couple of local dealers and was planning on buying my FR-S from Country Hills Toyota (family has bought a few cars there) or Heninger (used to date Brian Heninger's niece).

You guys planning on doing what most Canadian dealers (especially Honda) do with customized factory cars - add some aero/interior bits and increase the vehicle price far beyond the actual cost of the extras? Probably what I would do if I was a dealer principal or sales manager. :-)

Lol, I just realized that you probably can't answer both of those questions.

"I work at ____ dealership, and yes we will mark up the car with the Five kit by ____."

Haha.

I'm at Stampede Toyota Scion, but I don't even have a price on the Five Axis kit yet. I just ordered them (they are in production) from their Canadian distributor for our display. As for mark-up, everyone needs to make money, and unfortunately Canadian dealerships are usually at the mercy of what corporate is charging us for parts. Often times I can buy a part from a USA dealer and have it shipped up here for less than Toyota Canada charges us for a part at cost. There is no way I can compete with USA prices, especially for high-volume USA dealers where they sell everything at razor-thin margins in high-quantities. Trying to compete with that, especially considering Canada's overall smaller buying power (which is only one of the reasons why most things still cost more in Canada even when the dollar is at par). The other issue is that even when our dollar fluctuates, you can't just drop the prices on everything the next day to match what the USA is selling things for, companies would go out of business. There are expenses that don't change when the dollar gains against the USA, etc.

So, what I am saying is that most things cost more in Canada, yes, but not everything. There are profit margins to maintain and ROI to think about when operating a company, however there are parts that are generally cheaper in Canada (for whatever reason) from Toyota, things like ECU's, Windshields, Steel wheels, etc. are almost always cheaper in Canada than the USA, other parts are similarly priced, and still others are WAY WAY more in Canada.

So that's all on the parts side of it, so once all of that happens, the parts get put on the vehicle and our sales department comes up with a price for the vehicle and they probably add more on top to have room to negotiate (I'm not 100% sure on their selling structure). You'd have to look at exact break-downs of pricing for accessories, etc. before buying the car to make sure you are getting the best value.

Do your homework and make sure you're getting the best value for your money I guess.

Jeff

Oh ya. I have no beef with this sort of thing. Like you say it's economies of scale that make things so cheap in America. The Aussies have it much worse than we do. Plus, with our trade agreements, and being right next door we can easily buy American products and bring em home or ship them at reasonable costs.

I remember back in '06 seeing a new (then) Civic with a bunch of carbon interior pieces and a body kit put on an EX coupe at Village Honda. The total cost of these aftermarket parts in the US would have been maybe $1000, and even in Canada maybe add 40% to that plus install. The car looked awesome, so they priced it at $32,000!! That was about 2.5G's more than an Si! If someone was dumb enough to buy it then good for them I guess.

I'm not suggesting Stampede will do that with the Five:AD FR-S but if they do shame on the buyer, not them.

I think that the pricing on the FR-S relative to the US price is, well, fair I think.

Looks awesome, would love to see a BRZ versions.

I know that's unlikely given 5Axis' long held proclivities towards Scion-specific parts - - but considering its the same chassis... please ? :happy0180:

Otherwise those sideskirts + a v-limited
