Shouldn't take much to get 1,000hp out of this thing. Probably not practical as your everyday Challenger but imagine the thrill on a straight away!

It ought to come with an extra valet key as well, with a fist shooting the bird, and limiting the car to 50 horsepower.

Not the band, the song. But I suppose it either clicks with you or not. I mean, the first verse is about vehicles and going fast. And it kicks off with the guitar to simulate a vehicle running up through the gears. Hey, marketing doesn't work the exact same way for everyone, and you can't hit all targets. Look how many people were confused with the choice of music in the Mortal Kombat X trailer.

Looks bad-ass, makes 707 hp, what's not to like?

Would be an insane daily driver, although too heavy to be a good track car.

Hellcat is a joke. The GT500 is a FAR better option for speed with only 45 less HP but what will be about a 350-500 pound weight difference.

It's enormous, sits way too high, and weighs about 4200 lb., that's what not to like.
They should have invested resources spent developing this in a smaller/lighterweight new 'cuda. IMHO...

Those are valid criticisms and I actually share them, but this is a different kind of car IMO. It's supposed to be a modern and extreme take on the muscle car, which has historically been:

- big
- heavy
- menacing
- comfortable
- big engine/lots of power

Dodge appears to have squarely hit all of those marks. It's not my cup of tea, but I can respect it for what it is.

Muscle cars were *intermediate* size cars with big powerplants. The whole idea was to put big power into cars that were not big and heavy. And comfort was never a major priority for them.

Also, the '70 Challenger/'cuda were supposed to be pony cars rather than muscle cars, smaller and lighter-weight. But they were at the porky end of the the pony car spectrum at 3500-3700 lb. back in 1970, or about 300 lb. heavier than a Corvette. C7 Corvette weighs somewhere between what a 1970 small-block and big-block Corvette weighed. No excuse for Challenger to have piled on so much size and mass.

I was a big fan of the '70 Challenger and 'cuda. I don't know how people can think the new Challenger really evokes the old one, which geve the impression of being very LOW and wide. New one is certainly wide, but is sky-high and looks nothing like as low-slung and sporty as the original. It just looks big.

So does everything else these days, though. The styling cues are on point much closer than that of the Mustang or Camaro compared to their ancestors, though. IMO, at least.

So many haters in here it's sickening. 10 years ago most of you would have bowed down to this car now it's just hate hate hate.

This car will compete with the Camaro ZL1. It's not pretending to be a track day special like the Z28.

If I were in my late 50s/early 60's and couldn't afford an AMG this is probably exactly what I'd want to drive, hehehe

ZDan, isn't the car extremely heavy due to it's 15+ year old Mercedes E Class platform?

Official Power Figures for the Dodge Challenger Hellcat. 707 HP!

Nobody is hating as much as calling it like they see it. I LOVE HORSEPOWER. I'm coming from a 414 horsepower car and one thing THIS FR-S is teaching is power, though important, isn't the end of the story. I applaud the American manufacturers for finally stepping up in the last few years in quality, innovation, refinement and of course power but a 707 horsepower 4300 lb car is just not appealing to me or many others. Conversely I would give my left arm for a C7 Stingray particularly after my experience with this FR-S. The Corvette is both light and powerful...and let's face it, where are you gonna use 707 horsepower safely and have fun? Hell, 465hp in the C7 might be overkill. I know 414 was pushing it in M3. Rarely could I open it up the way I wanted. 707 is the land of "diminishing returns" especially when you add in 4300lbs. It's called physics and like aging you can only fight it so much. No hate here though, always excited about HIGH NUMBERS.
