By your own admission, Cusco makes a lot of useless crap for ricers. In fact, a lot of the stuff pictured on page 2 of this thread is visibly useless. The problem the Ryephile has with Cusco, and the aftermarket industry in general, is the total lack of data supporting the usefulness of the stuff that may or may not be useless.

Their braces for instance. Cusco offers no test data for torsional rigidity with and without their products. Further, they offer no proof that their products have any quantifiable effect on performance. And quite frankly, if Cusco is doing their R&D properly this data would already exist, because testing your prototypes before beginning production is pretty much fundamental. But instead of presenting this data in their sales literature they simply expect people to take it on faith that, because it's painted blue and has "Cusco" written on it, it must be worth the money. To quote Ryephile: "There isn't a shred of data anywhere, let alone a description of what they hope the product may do." So when the products that might not be useless are shown next to what are obviously useless shiny baubles for ricers, with no evidence that they are in any way effective, there is no reason to believe that any of it is useful.

and what aftermarket companies do?

the problem is he singles out cusco like they are the only one that doesn't publish data, but in actuality I have never seen a Japanese tuning company publish data. heck most valve springs and turbos don't even have specs coming out of Japan, does that mean they don't work also?

If you don't like their stuff fine, I have no real preference for anything specifically, but if you don't know what the part does or feel it won't do it's intended duty feel free to not buy it, but don't pretend like this is a fresh sheet of wool being pulled down this is just the standard JDM market release that follows every new tuner car....

@orbital, I make far more parts than I buy, that's what I do...but most people would rather but nice pretty OTS parts for their cars and that's fine there is room at both ends of the spectrum,

I put Cusco parts on my car, so I guess that makes me a sucker... The camber plates I installed didn't allow me to get 2 more degrees of camber out of the front wheels so I could improve turn-in. The rear strut tower brace didn't actually increase rigidity of the rear section of the chassis, and the oil catch can didn't keep any oily vapors out of the intake tract, preventing gunky buildup from forming in the plenum. The Cusco LSD I plan to install won't improve handling at all whatsoever, either... Oh wait, actually all of these parts work. Isn't that just unbelievable?

And they definitely haven't been building performance parts for Subarus for several years, and don't have any empirical data to back up the parts that they make:

I've done no such thing, but feel free to believe otherwise.
