If I have to wait a month or so more, that's acceptable. But if US deliveries are delayed until January also (highly unlikely since they're building BRZs as we type) then I'll cancel my order. I might as well get something fun for now and wait for the upgraded models later, or save more for an 818 build.

Reminds me of a 1 series with just a different front end.
That is one weird-lookin' car.

Kinda looks like a smushed Charger or somethin'.

Yeah, I'm fine with that as well. As long as I have the car to enjoy it for a decent amount of the summer, I'm fine. Gives me time to save more for a bigger downpayment.

I saw this in person at the DC auto show. It looks like a cartoon character.
Over styled IMHO.

It's a concept car, I'm sure it's proportions will get redone so that it has the same shape as a baby Camaro, just with a different front end.

I'm not trying to be a debbie downer, but I'm preparing for a delay. Not large, but I'm #2 on the list at my dealer that has 7 coming in this year (as of right now), and I'm now hoping to get my car by the end of June because of this news.
You don't understand how it all works then. They've been producing cars already for the worldwide launch. Many of those cars are already on boats. If you're number 2, you'll likely be getting your car in late may/early june. Those cars are already under way. Most smaller dealers that are listed as getting 6-7 cars will get like 2 to 3 at a time. Those will then get purchased, or the pre-orderers will flake, and someone else will buy the car.

What this article means is that Japan is sold out, and has been. They tried to accommodate more than they had already allotted, but they cannot. So those pre-orders over their already allotted amount need to wait until 2013 while they fulfill the other commitments they've made. The US/AUS/EMEA markets will all get the cars they've been assigned, but this article means don't expect to see cars sitting on the lot.

My best friend lives in Hong Kong half the year and travels to Japan 4 times a year. He's 100% Chinese. This is all from him educating me on our last trip.
American consumerism may have a heavier influence on their younger generation now, but the overall trends that you claimed for each nation is still backwards. Japan is still a heavier saving country than the US. Not only that but the reason for Japan's hike in consumerism is largely due to American influence.

That makes sense as long as they don't do a total re-allotment to everyone to try and even everything out. Yeah sure I ordered a Limited in WRB, but they have plenty of them sitting around, and they haven't given me a VIN yet, so they can take my car and give it to someone else if they need to and assign me another WRB Limited at a later date. Hopefully the U.S. cars won't get taken away since they're left hand drive, but who knows.

We and Toyobaru better hope none of their boats sink, like it happened to Mazda not long ago... that would really suck.

Never said it wasn't, and I totally agree. This is getting way off topic now though. Back to discussing how awesome this car is, and that Japan the demand is so high you can't get one now until 2013.

That's the big difference is the LHD cars. They can't repurpose those for Japan. It's makes more financial sense to just push out the over-sold orders to 2013.

Bingo. If your car physically exists right now in some distribution centre or on a boat, they sure aren't going to redo the steering, pedals, interior, turn around and sell it in Japan ;-)

It is a nice indicator the car has gone down well in Japan, but surely all the early adopters here will be catered for.

But if our cars have no VIN numbers, there's a good possibility that they haven't built ours yet. My worry is that they will push our scheduled build dates back in order to build more JDM cars.
