Okay, if you work for Uber and list Uber as an employer, you'll have to get the car with the Uber program. Uber owns the car at that point. You are financing through Uber, which finances through TFS. Also, you'll have to do a 70% LTV down payment (30+ %). If you have a job already, don't bother mentioning Uber to the dealership you go to (especially if you go to me in San Rafael). That way, you don't have to put down 30% and the car will be under your name; and you'll still get 0% financing.

Also, if you do move forward with Uber, work in SF. Otherwise, you won't make much. I've had prospects NOT buy a car because they didn't stick with Uber because they weren't making the promised cash flow (they were working in other locations aside from SF).

Current Plug-In incentives have dropped down to $2,500 + 0% (down from $4k rebate last month). I believe the $2,500 tax deduction still applies (you will have to qualify for this), as well as the $1,500 state credit/check. 15k HOV stickers were recently announced, but that won't last long since that's for ANY EV vehicle purchased after the re-announcement in California.

So I'm guessing the guy ended up finally getting the Prius.
I think it's a very responsible choice and potentially the right one as well.
Since he has a family I don't see why getting a Prius could be a poor choice.
It is definitely not a car you can drift in, even though I kind of did it once, but it has a decent amount of power and maneuvers good as well. The best part are the gas saving, how much you can fit in it, and the maintenance is very low cost.

Before I got my Prius I had a Toyota Tercel and I got caught speeding twice in it, and now that I'm in a Prius, it has more power and I do tend to speed sometimes, but so far I've flown by cops and haven't been pulled over a single time.

The 86 and Prius are two different beasts that shouldn't be compared. If there is a family on the way, it's just a wise choice to get something practical like Prius, otherwise I don't see anyone trading an 86 for anything, unless it's a McLaren MP4-12C (personal favorite car) :p

Pretty sure I'd hate myself for buying a prius unless it was because I had to in order to afford things like my mortage, support my wife/kids, or at the expense of putting money away for the future.

If money was a concern then why'd you dump money on those mods to make the twin go faster? I get the need for speed and all that but getting from there to a hybrid seems a little backwards, ya know?

It's your car man do what makes you happy. I personally would find other places to cut back.

The prius option is like going nuclear

Damn. For about 22k I would have hopped in it way before my BRZ. I so miss my HOV access with my Civic Hybrid. Yeah, the HOV lane gets clogged with the slow-poke drivers every so often but it sure is a lot better especially in rain or on Fri afternoons.

lol. Being an Uber/Lyft driver.

Sure hope you never get in an accident.
Or run into mob- I mean, Taxi drivers.
And I hope you keep very good records of your income and set aside money for the extra taxes at the end of the year since they don't deduct taxes from the paycheck.

Well he does live in the bay area.. in which I guess women would probably be more impressed with some fancy bicycle and a green peace sticker on the helmet.

Realistically I use to despise the Prius, but its really not a bad place to be if you're looking to cruise around. Also like some people were saying, you do live in the bay area. You really dont need a car, you could actually go for that bike.
