You'd have to be a total moron to take a Miata or Lotus over a V6 Accord after all.

Where's Honda's bespoke, lightweight RWD chassis?

Two years ago, Toyota and Subaru jointly released arguably the best, lightweight RWD coupe chassis in the sub-$50k segment.

Honda, you've been put on notice. Go big or go home.

This has been discussed ever since teen aged boys creamed themselves over jdm nonsense.

If the states didn't have the strict requirements for passenger vehicles, this wouldn't even be news.

Besides 2.0l turbocharged at that rating is not impressive.

Grow up and realize amg has a 2.0l 4 cylinder rated at 355hp in the cla45 amg which is legal in the states starting at 47g.
Ummmm, have you looked at emissions and fuel economy requirements in Europe???

Still won't buy FWD though
Oh wow, a 2.0 turbo producing 280bhp; never seen one of those before...

Yes, and Europe uses a different testing procedure and standard than the us.

Actually I'm pretty dumb founded by that post. There are 50 states in the us. All of which have their own laws and regulations on safety and emissions. Did you know that?

Was you post intended to presume that an auto manufacturer would make a mass production vehicle catered to certain states?

No... you said it would never come to the US because of emissions laws, and I was pointing out that some European countries (that will get this car) have just as stringent emissions and fuel economy laws.

Yes, California has tough emissions laws, but they're not the only place in the world that is strict.

Actually, I think he's right. AFAIK no EU country has stricter emissions than CARB, because they still allow their little diesels to run around, and we don't because they emit too much NOx.

I think the difference has been trimmed a bit with the Euro 6 regulations but I think CARB is still a little tighter.

Reasons I could not care less:

-US will not get the TypeR
-It's FWD
-By far the ugliest Civic

No, most states actually do have the same emission requirements for new vehicles. It's their yearly inspection requirements that vary greatly. And that has squat to do with manufacturing requirements.

It's not CARB, it's CAFE. It's crash test and safety regulations and the efficiency standards of CAFE.

When a global car company makes a car, say the Civic Type R, they have to actually engineer, design and build 2 different* cars for the different markets due to these standards. If they don't think they can sell enough of the cars stateside then the cost to engineer a car to the US Safety and CAFE standards then they won't do it. That's why we don't get the cool shit.

It's also why we don't get the Mazda6 wagon and why the USA Alfa 4C will be over 250lbs heavier than the European version.

Until the countries can agree on unified safety regulations, things won't change.

Seeing as how we are talking about turbocharged 4 cylinder concepts then I want to see Chevy build this:

272HP inline four from the Cadillac ATS, AWD and Six speed Tremac manual transmission or 6 speed automatic with paddles. Curb weight around 3100lbs if they do a little bit of weight savings to offset the AWD system.
