So on Sunday I went to the skid pan for the first time. I was meant to meet up with a few of the guys I had met on the Dyno day but I only ran into qbzee007. I was expecting to be a pro drifter thanks to all my simulation hours on PlayStation and PC games . Man was it a lot of fun but I soon realised it's really hard to keep a controlled drift let alone trying to follow those confusion courses they put up for you. On my first run I took out a cone and I was very heavy on the throttle and basically everything else too (breaks, steering, handbrake). I got some helpful tips from some of the more experience people there and I improved ever so slightly. Eventually they got rid of those courses and it was a open skidpan. This was a lot better for me cause I wanted to learn how to control the car before trying to navigate through the twists, figure eights and loops.

I came to realise for myself that I need to be more gentle and quicker on the throttle and utilise less steering and then try balance the two. I still need a lot of practice . But sometimes you just don't care and put your foot flat and let the car go out of control ending up in total 360 spin and facing backwards (how do you face backwards if you do a 360? I don't know haha).

My car was filthy and you have to make sure you wash it really good because they use borehole water. It took me 2-3 hours to wash my car by hand. The borehole water leaves stains on the stainless steel and on the black parts of my car . I had to put extra care into getting that out.

So after spending some quality time with my car I decided to go get some groceries at an out of the way drive Spar (15-20 mins away). I saw some clouds in the far distance. I thought to myself it's winter, it won't rain, and if it did those clouds were still far away. I'll be fine.

Before I left I also placed an order for some pizza from the Spar. When I arrived at the Spar I noticed the rain clouds were much much closer and there was also lightning and thunder, so I needed to hurry. I went straight to the pizza section and the guy only started making the pizzas then . I had to wait 10 minutes, so I went to fetch the rest of what I needed for the soccer game. I rushed out of the Spar got into my car, left the shopping center and immediately got stuck behind the only car on the road . I was thinking all these unplanned delays are going to get my car dirty again .

Thanks to Murphy's law the rain got me and all my hard work getting my car spotless just 30 minutes ago was all a waste but I soon realised I didn't care because you know what, dammmmmmm is it fun to drive in the rain , every corner is an exciting new toy. I did leave the nannies on - to be responsible and more safe. Was it also coincidence or Godly intervention because I happened to have prepared for it, thanks to the skidpan?!

Wish I could have made it, sounds like you guys had a blast!

Ordered the TRD Sound Changer on eBay today, cost R667.63 (With Shipping)
Not sure if I paid too much for it...?

Had a chance to sit in Vic's 86 and experienced him rev'ving up, with his BRZ exhaust and TRD Sound Changer...Sounded INCREDIBLE! Cannot wait for it to arrive and to fit on the exhaust next month.

Thanks Vic!

There were 3 options on eBay, two from Japan that said 'Original' with the boxing and instructions..

There was one for around R300, from Aus...but looked fake as shit.

I guess the one I ordered is also not an original from Japan but it looks like its a good quality fake. We will see when it arrives.

Goodbye dear friend.
You've served me well since the early 90's, but now it's time to move on.
I'm pleased that you've found a new owner who wants to rebuild you, restore you to your former glory, and cherish you like I did.
Very special memories of amazing places and amazing things we did together.
Sad, but feeling good nevertheless about wonderful times during the past 20+ years.

Amazing that one can get so attached to a vehicle.
Thinking about it - it's not amazing at all because the same is happening all over again with my very, very special 86

Sad. I know the feeling having let my ST go recently but owning a car for 30 years - that must be way worse.

Thanks for the commiserations. Not 30 years, just 20 and a few.
I was the second owner - I bought her in 1993, but here's the story that has meaning for us 86'ers...

She started life as a 1990 2.4L 4-cyl Nissan Sani.
Probably the most flaccid and tired motor ever, even brand new...

The first owner was a lady, and she was unhappy with the (lack of) power delivery.
So, she leant on her husband to fix her problem.
Her husband was Bobby Hardy, who was a big name in Nissan rallying in the early 90's.
He called in a favour from his mate Hennie van der Linde, who "breathed" on it...
Anybody with half a petrolhead knows who Hennie is...

Cam, branch, free-flow xorst, head job, weber carb, and some other magic, and voila...!!!

A maddog of a 4 cyl 4x4 that can haul 175+ on an open road and leave black stripes if you drop the clutch.

And that was in 1990. Today, that engine is still sweet, and never been opened since then.
The branch manifold is still original, the weber carb is still original and never been re-jetted, and the SS exhaust has only been replaced once.

And folks wonder why I went to the PROs for my S/C job and paid a bit more. Go figure...

PS: @Vic RSA - those pics were 5 years ago. She looks pretty ropey now.

Can't be too much worse... Come to think of it I can't quite remember when I last saw a Sani, except for the one on the late Piet Pieterse's cooking show when I was still a sprite!

Treated my 86 to some goodies this week....

Was in Randburg so decided to drop by at ATS Motorsport...Heaven on Earth (Not the Pretoria one you thinking of)lol,

"Feeling Good" I decided to join some of my mates to chill at the "Midrand Drags" last night (Thursday night)...(I think it was on 14th Road)

He had a Honda V-Tec with NOS, so I decided to tag along to see the Gauteng "Fast&Furious"/"Need for Speed" scene is like.....

and.....

...and oh my fuck...

Skyline GTR's, M3's, 135i's, Damn Quick GTi's , S3's , Lexus ISF's , 335i's......and the list goes on...TURBO, Turbo, TURBO....The sweet sound of Boost echoed through the night

Made me quite sad having a naturally aspirated...but hey, life is such,
Dropped of one of my friends in Samrand and did a little drifting...and
Still loving the 86!
