While I'm not a proponent of the arbitrary competitiveness that "user stats" bring to the party, I also have a counterpoint perception that forum members that see the "Thanks" may cause them to think twice before trolling and/or making an otherwise idiotic comment that we all would be better off not reading.
How's that for a long sentence!
