If anyone has yet to be able to do it here are the steps:

1) Get in the car

2) press the start/stop button two times, with makes the car to be in the start position (all your dash lights light up)

3) Lock the car with the physical button on the door

4) Press the unlock button on the door and open the door while still pressing the unlock door button.

5) Still pressing the unlock button, wait about 10 seconds, the car will beep once for activated and twice for deactivated and the information panel in the cluster will say either "AL on" or "AL off"

2013 BRZ limited. Worked for me. Thanks for the instructions.

Same. I left the window open, locked vehicle with keyless, placed remote far away, reached in and flipped to unlock, opened door but nothing happens?

Once you active alarm (push lock button on remote) you will see key/lock icon on solid red. After 30+ seconds the icon will blink on and off. Now you can reach in and unlock door (make sure key fob is not on you). Once you do that the alarm will sound.

I was trying for following the steps from user manual (2015) alarm activation and OP instruction here and cannot get it work. After a long trying and I finally got it to work. here is my revised version might help some people who was having trouble to activate it.

1) press the start/stop button two times, which makes the car to be in the "ON" position without starting the car (all your dash lights light up)

Now you need to following those step rapidly.--> lock, unlock, open door.
3) Lock the car with the physical button on the door

4) Press the unlock button on the door and open the door while still pressing the unlock door button.

5) Still pressing the unlock button, wait about 15-20 seconds, the car will honk once for activated and twice for deactivated and the information panel in the cluster will say either "AL on" or "AL off"

now when you press lock on the keyless remote, you will see the "car and lock" icon stay solid on for 30 second instead of flashing like before.

After countless tries, this is the best method yet, and works for me.
Never got the honk until now.

Thanks for this. I totally forgot to check and make sure the dealer had it enabled. Of course they didn't.

Further to this, none of these weird pattern lock unlock, open doors, close doors patterns, etc. are necessary. I have located in the manual and confirmed this method works flawlessly every time.
