There are a few US dealers that have a section for Canadian buyers directly on their site, all of the ones I talked to are close to the Canadian border.
I contacted probably a half dozen of them when pre-orders first opened in North America, mainly because I wanted DGM and they chose not to offer it in Canada. They were all willing to sell to me for MSRP except for one (the exception dealer wanted $2,500 more since they were so sure it would still come in below Canadian MSRP even with the premium). I love the car, but am not willing to play the price gouge game to get one. As any FYI, taken from a few of the US dealer sites just now: "IMPORTANT NOTICE 4-5-12: WE ARE NOT EXPORTING ANY NEW IMPREZA, WRX, BRZ OR MANUAL TRANSMISSION SUBARUS AT THIS TIME." "Note: Subaru has recently been put under new restrictions by the policies of Subaru Inc. Call us for details at" |

Looking at US WRX pricing the BRZ is only $100 (!!!) less than the base WRX ($25,595). And in Canada a WRX starts at $32,495. Like seriously WTF??? They must realize by now about this internet thing... where people can find out the BRZ is the same as the $25,990 FR-S...

There is a great website run by a Subaru employee (google Joe Spitz) based in Seattle IIRC, that will have anything and everything you want to know about crossing the line to grab a Subaru.

It looks like Subie Canada is positioning the BRZ as a high-margin, low-volume and relatively exclusive vehicle like the WRX/STI, conceding the volume to Scion. As I've mentioned before it would probably be untenable for them to offer a 8% markup on the BRZ while screwing over their WRX customers at 30% when the 2 cars are so close in price in the US. What possible justification could they offer for the difference to WRX buyers?

I've quietly wondered if Subaru Canada has been waiting on releasing their pricing because they needed to see where Scion would price here relative to the US. After all, Scion has added a relatively modest mark-up of 7%.
Subaru priced the BRZ in the US in line with the WRX, but if they attempt that here its going to create a massive gap between the FR-S that can't be explained by HIDS and a navigation system. If they price it far inside of the WRX though, it could create problems for WRX pricing .... interesting situation they've created for themselves. |

I'm sure once the hype cools down, some clever dealers in the US may be able to arrange some rather low-mileage 'used' BRZ sales for Canadians.

As far as brand new ones go... just keep calling dealers further and further south until someone is willing to play. Sure you might end up in Sacramento, but what a great way to break the car in ![]() Redflagdeals is also a great website to check to see who has found dealers willing to sell new cars to folks in Canadia.

Having read through some of the Australian section I wonder if Subaru Canada is waiting for the Aussie pricing to be released first (they are speculating ~$40k! with their dollar close to ours) so when they drop a low $30k price on us they can say 'Well it's better than in Australia.'
Poor Aussies...

They really are taking the piss on their website, saying the 'Wait is almost over' and its coming in June :-s
If the US price is anything to go on, look for the BRZ to start from $31,995 CAD. Delaying pricing won't make the landing any nicer.

And Hachi just posted that demand in Japan for the BRZ is way over supply and delivery may be pushed back...

^Nice. Canada is such a small market, we always get screwed on cars.
They cost too much new, the specs are typically limited, and the used selection is rubbish. I am definitely happy to be in the States from a car buying POV.

I've never seen a car manufacturer use "Hey, well, you guys got raped less than Thailand and Singapore." as a reason you should be happy for what the price ended up being. :P |
