The CR-V wiki claims in the United States: "It is powered with a 2.4-liter i-VTEC inline-four engine that puts out 185 hp and 163 pound-feet (220Nm ) of torque at 4,400 rpm along with an all-new Real-Time all-wheel-drive (AWD) with intelligent control system"

Oddly it has 4WD listed for other countries though.

I do wonder what/which it is. Maybe its an AWD system that can be switched to a true 4WD system?

not sure, I can confirm under my wife's it has a transfer case. I would say though that the model does state in the specifics that it's awd, although on the back it says 4wd haha

For something that's light, CRV's mpg is HORRIBLE! I do a ton of averaging and #'s are pretty much neck and neck. For everyday usage, 4Runner > CRV anyday. The only thing I like about the CRV was the ease of getting in and out. If I was to look into buying another CRV, I'd just buy a Civic.

About reliability: My Crv pooped @ 132k and replaced it with a 72k mile engine and it started leaking/burning oil @ 102k. Engine had a shit load of issues so I found someone who would trade. 98' 4Runner has 260k miles with basic oil change, regular maintenence (major one is timing belt), and still running like a champ. My mom drives it everyday. Bought a brand new 2002 4Runner and did all basic and major maintenance and still running beautifully @ 160k. Maybe it's just me, NEVER had any luck with Honda's. Been through 20+ cars and had 2-3 Hondas that never lasted over a month of ownership.

That is actually great to hear because I like the 4runner in many ways, plus it feels more manly driving in it than a CRV.

It sure does LOL. I'm sure you'll be pleased with a 4runner. I passed down my 4Runner's to my family members but plan on buying another this fall. Good luck my friend
