THANK YOU for the side and rear photos... I'm thinking of getting the 30% Pinnacle Ceramic tint, and this just sealed the deal for me, cheers!

Thinking about getting my Asphalt FR-S tinted. Leaning towards 30%. I think I have a (maybe dumb) question for you guys: There's a local tint shop advertising full car tint jobs for $149. Is that a good deal? It seems like a good deal. Would they just use crappy tint? Is there one tint brand that is better than the other? What makes one tint job for the car $300, and on $150?

Just got my car tinted today and I made sure to ask them a lot of questions prior to the appointment.

I would suggest that you ask them some of the following:

What brand of tint film do they use?
Is there a warranty attached to the film?
How long do these installations usually take?

Also check them out on Yelp. There are plenty of customers whom will show off their tint jobs on the listing.

As far as which brand is better, I don't have much of an answer to that but a lot of window tinters around my area offered 3M but I'm sure some knowledgeable members of this forum will be happy to answer that.

On a side note, the first call which took a while due to questions net me a price quote which sounded fair. The second call a few days later was simply to set an appointment and they quoted me lower. (Hope that's helpful to some people)

Anyways, here's how my 2014 Argento FR-S is looking like after today's service:

Johnson's Film
35% Sides and Rear
$170 OTD (Tints and Service, no Tax)
Lifetime Warranty on film
Done at Best Image in San Mateo, CA.

10% cheap $20 film. Installed myself in a few hours.

Legal limit here is 35%. So I get pulled up on it every 6 months at our mandatory inspections. So I have to reapply every 6 months.

#aintcare. Small price to pay. 35% tints are shit.

I did 20% all around for my BRZ. Did anyone else notice that the defroster lines are more noticeable at night, making headlights behind you a little blurry?

Only when the tint was newly applied. After a few days it went back to normal.

Wincos IR rejection tint
I've got either 10 or 15 on the rear and 25 on the sides.
I got it done at the dealership that I got the car from.
$300 total
I'm very impressed with the performance of it so far.

My car has been in the shop in a little over a week getting hail and the windshield fixed. I miss my car so I think I'll buy it a welcome back gift. Yay tinting! I'll post pictures and the exact details once its done this Friday. Quoted at $175 from my local place.
