Mixing Oil Brands?
I have four quarts of Penzoil Platinum 0w-20, and two quarts of Royal Purple 0w-20.
Both synthetic oils meet or exceed API-SN and ILSAC-GF-5. I don't see any reason why I couldn't use the two brands together for my next oil change, but I'm just wondering if there is some reason I shouldn't that I'm not aware of. Yes or no? P.S. Save the "you'll blow up the world" comments for another time.

unless it says not compatible with other oils on the bottle you're fine. Its the same as changing the oil on a car with a remote oil cooler and using a different brand. Maybe not 2 quarts worth, but you get the idea.

Okay I'll throw in my 2 cents here. Simply speculating, after an oil change, the "extra stuff" in the oil is usually used up. When it's new you're mixing fresh chemical additives.
That being said I seriously doubt anything bad will happen. How many people have had to add oil to their car in an "emergency situation" and didn't have the same kind of oil laying around? More so think how many people get their oil changed at a shop then just add whatever later. |
