I'd rather go for some JRZ RS's.

I'd still tak the Penske over JRZ. If I'm gonna spend that much it better have the rebuild ability and tunability of a Penske. How many different types of damper pistons does JRZ offer? Regressive valve? What about Penske? Exactly.

I wouldn't. The RS is not really in the same league.
I think it's cool Penske even decided to design and build a setup specific to the car. I talked to Anze originally about building a set and the cost was relatively similar but that was using external cans and a the 8300 series shock. It looks like Penske is including lower perches to fit the stock springs, like MCS did for people looking to use them in "Street" autocross classes. |

You mean you can't just eyeball it? There was a whole thread about properly torquing something with an impact wrench, so this should be about the same, right?

When I had my Porsche race car, I used "Smart Strings", basically strings to do the aligment. 90 degree plates on the ground, against the wheels for camber, and string and a tape measure for toe.

Either off the shelf preset or custom spec'd. Agreed no one has the customization that Penske does, but 95% of those looking for really nice suspension won't know what to do with that level of customization. Edit: if I knew all the things that went into a damper to change it's characteristics you bet I would go all out for some nice Penskes. But there's two problems with that; 1. I don't know a quarter of the options I'd be looking at and what a change any of them would do 2. I haven't had enough suspension experience to know the ride difference between a well setup Penske and a well setup JRZ.

I have one bent Penske left over from my IMSA 300TT that I would sell for 1/2 that. We ran Penskes on everything because of all the parts and service I would never run anything else on an all out race car, now for the street Damptronics. Had to get the plug in.

They are also a lot more durable than you might think. I know people who daily drive on 8300 setups and never have any problems, just because they are expensive doesn't mean they wear out quickly. They use good parts, good seals, and they are engineered well. |
