Good news.

I honestly don't know where the 215s came into the thread though. The title was 225 or 235....

225/45...that's what the width calls for...

As a DD only car, I dont see super stiff side walls are necessarily better. I cant argue with cheaper though.

Also to ayau's earlier point, the RS-3 and Rival in 215 look square on the stock rim compared to slightly narrow like the stock tire.

Will a 225/45 be and or look stretched on a 8.25" wide rim? I would just go with a 235/40 but the selection of tires in that size is very small and are pretty much all summer tires. Also I fear that the 235/40 size will alter the way the car feels and make for a stiffer ride.

I just want to retain the daily comfort and awesome driving feel and steering feed back of the car.

I've got 8" wheels and I'm also debating 225/45 vs 245/40 since as you say the 235/40 is only ultra high perf tires. I have 215 stockers on it right now and they are stretched but not stupidly so. I think if steering feel is primary, get the 225s.

Pilot super sports on an 8 inch wheel look pretty good in 215/45 - not stretched at all. Those are wide tires.

Hmmm I have 225/45 PSS's on my other car and I do like those tires a lot. Those are on a 17x7 wheel though and from what I recall they look pretty square. Ill have to take a good look at them when I get home.

I was trying to avoid summer tires so I didn't have to switch wheels every winter, but if they'll fit nicely and give me some rim protection I'd consider it (not that I'm one to curb my rims but accidents do happen lol)

I'm getting the Mich AS/3 ultra all seasons (for summer up here) since they are decent in 40-60F weather which the PSS are not. If you don't see snow (or just a little bit) the AS/3 is probably your best bet. But then I'm back to 245/40 or 225/45 on an 8 since they are narrower than PSS and I like the meaty look.

But I guess. Stance YO!
The sidewall is wider so you don't curb rash the wheel....

if you DD only, then go as narrow as possible

if you track the car and have stock power, then 225 is your goal

if you track the car and have crazy power... then that will require testing

if you autocross the car, then you theoretically want to shove as much tire as you feel comfortable given the other mods.

yesterday my tires came in and now I'm sitting on 235/40 on the oem wheelsss

What tire did you go with? Feel any increase in the harshness in the ride quality? Steering feel?

Lol sorry for the barrage of questions.

toyo R1R, I got a really good deal on them through my club and there is a contingency on them in my local series

they are harsh-er.. but keep in mind I just came off my winters.

so far they seem fine, but I'm still rolling on the stickers, so no real comments yet. My last high performance tire was an RE11 and RA1, but that was a few years ago... so it'll take a while to get comfortable in judging performance.

the thing to take away from this is that you need to be very honest to yourself about the car usage. If a full season of your local autocross series (or two) isn't in the books and you might hit the track only once for fun, then there is no reason to get the wide stuff..

Yeah no I'm not worried about performance with this car as it is my daily. I just want to make sure I get the right sized tire for the 8.25" wide wheel that I want. It's the XXR 530. I would just get the 17x7 but I like the concave look of the 17x8.25 much better.

A 235/40 I'd imagine would fit the best, be nice and square, offer some rim protection, and throw off the speedo the least amount. Problem is I can only find summer tires in that size.

I'd rather a 225/45 because there are hundreds of options but I really don't want the tire to be stretched at all.
