In general, a retrofit means to make something fit where it was not originally intended to.

In this case, he is talking about taking the projector housing and lens and bulb and everything from another car, and fitting it in our stock headlight housing.

He basically summed it up. In my case and as well as others that have done it there's the site called the retrofit source and they have a direct bi-xenon bolt on projector for the FR-S. The bi-xenon means that you will have a functioning hid high beam built in to the projector. Plus the projector was designed for hid applications not a halogen bulb.
