The Oban 18 was the standout from that group, simply amazing.

Nice. You've got 5 there I haven't tried. I wasn't a fan of the Oban 14 - at least not for the money - but the 18 is probably a lot better.

How was the Arran?

Honestly, I didn't like the Arran at all. Easily my least favorite of the night.

It had a really harsh nose that I just couldn't get past. The color was really strange too.

Could just be me though, a couple of the other guys liked it.

As a fellow Islay Scotch fan, I will tell you that I have a pretty insane collection of various scotch and my hands down favorite is the Lag. Ill drink it over any of my "wow" bottles I have in my collection. The 30 year Laphroaig is pretty amazing tho too.

I haven't had anything better than Lagavulin. The Kilchoman is very close... which is amazing since it's only 4-5 years old.

I've only had 10 year Laphroaig, which is good but it lacks the character of the Lagavulin (16 at least). Seeing the Lag at Costco for 55...I don't think I can resist buying it for much longer. I think it'd be a really safe purchase considering how much I enjoyed it. The Glenlivet 12 is really good if I get the amount of water exactly right, but it's extremely hard to get it right and so most of the glasses of that stuff I've had weren't to my liking. However my friends seem to have enjoyed it so I guess that's good. I am waiting to try the 15 or 18 to see if they have a better balance out of the bottle, I would gladly swing ~40 bucks on a bottle of the 15 if it produces the nice rich wheaty taste without having to water it down.

Costco also has Oban 14 on sale for 47.99, but I haven't had Oban. My friend says his Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban is really good, hopefully I'll get a taste in a few weeks. If it has the caramel flavor that people say it does, I think I'm in for a treat.

Quinta Ruban and Tullamore Dew Phoenix are the only whiskys I can get my wife to drink. Easy drinkers.

Laphroaig 18 and Quarter Cask are very good - 18 is a smoother 10 and Quarter Cask is an even-more-Laphroaig Laphroaig.

She doesn't like smoke or charred flavors. I'm not a bourbon fan, either.

Corsair - Triple Smoke. Made in small batches with an attention to detail. It's the kind of place you feel good supporting.

Just picked this up on the advice of a friend who says it's very similar to the Laphroaig 16 but way cheaper. Not cracking it open until tonight, but I had the 2005 at my buddy's house and it was really really nice.

Still new to scotch as I just turned 21 in May. Trying some stuff based on a lot of your guys recommendations. So far I like a more smoky flavor, this Highland Park 12 is great for the price.

HP12 is a great scotch, trying to decide if I want to replace that first or my Glenlivet 15, I love them both and both are low.

If you're digging the smoke flavor give the Talisker 10 a try, maybe at a bar before you commit to a whole bottle.
