Dealership Fees? Florida

Hi guys, I am a prospective FRS owner, I was looking at a used one in the WPB area (wont name the dealer) under 15,000 miles and what I thought was a good price.

Apparently though, the dealership fees ontop of this price are over $2000

Is this the norm here? I recently moved to Florida from the UK so I am abit wet behind the ears!

Thanks

Luc

Dealers usually do have a dealer fee here. It can varry from $100 to XXX stupid number. They say the law states they need to charge this fee to all cars they sell. I haven't verified that but seems plausible.

NOW, the way to get yourself off it, is to tell them ok, I'll pay the fee but to make this deal discount the price of the car XXX amount (dealer fee). Don't let a dealer bully you. IT is fair they need to make money, yes, but it is fair too that they don't take advantage of you so pay what is reasonable for the car if not, much more will come.

I second @sportsguy83

At the time of my purchase, I was trading in my '96 mustang...knowing in my head kbb stated I could only expect $500. My fiance used to be a car salesman in Georgia. He basically got the dealer to give us $1k for my poor mustang. This covered trade, dealer fees, and some. Just be ready to walk out if they don't do this for you, there are plenty other dealers who are ready for your business. It was more rock for me than him, but we did up twice to walk out before the manner came over to give the green light on the $1k trade amount.

Listen to these two, they couldn't be more right. When it comes to dealer fees every dealer is different and charge differently which is why sportsguy is hesitant to tell you its true. It's really a tax to make up for the haggling you will do. If they claim they don't have dealer fees they hike the overall price or charge you more in other areas. Trust me I went through many dealers all over South Florida until i found someone who wasn't trying to rob me.
Feel free to message me I can give you the contact info of my salesperson if you want to shop around.

My guess is that $2000 includes a dealer fee and TTL (sales tax, title fee, license/registration fee). Florida has a 6+% sales tax that is paid on the purchase price of the car minus the value of your trade in. You will find dealer fees can vary from $100 to $600. I actually e-mailed every single BMW dealer in the state of Florida when I ordered my M3 and made a spreadsheet of their dealer fees.

On a side note, Florida registration fees are going back down to a more reasonable level on September 1st after doubling a few years ago.

Yes I agree that you can ask them to discount the sales price, equal to the amount of the fees. I bought a car at a luxury car dealership in Pompano Beach. I asked them to discount the dealer fees off my sales price and they did. Never hurts to ask!
