I was surprised when I couldn't find the lucas oil at Auto Zone. I heard crickets laughing at me when I left the parking lot. But it gives me an opportunity to ask you guys a question. How do you clean off the funnel and keep oil out of your trunk/car? I guess just wiping it off with gas station paper towels works?

Someone recommended Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubrication & Injector Cleaner in this forum approximately 9 months ago. Since then I've been running this in every tank, without chirping and a much quieter and smoother engine. IMHO I'd rather add a fuel lubricant, than 2 stroke oil, to my gas.

I buy mine off Amazon, and add 2oz to ever fill-up from empty.

i run a 50/50 mix of redline fuel additive and ASHLESS 2 stroke NON synthetic oil, i use about 250ml per full tank of gas , engine is suuuuper quiet runs silky smooth, no smoke and o2 sensor has a perfect grey color to it, there is no buildup of any kind ,reason for non synthetic is that synthetic 2 stoke oil does NOT burn, it WILL crude up your o2 sensor and make higher amount of carbon buildup, i personally run SHELL marine ashless its cheap and burns completly without leaving residue , the injector noise is completly gone and in general the engine runs smoother, this is not enought to actually produce smoke it equates to a 1:300 mixture, which is nothing , the redline injector cleaner seems to work really well, so i just get a bottle pour 1/2 of it into another container and it has 250ml markings on it so its easy . i top that 1/2 up with 2 stroke oil and bingo,

I just love the fact that our cars are now apparently run by 2-cycle engines

At least, if we want to be rid of the crickets...

Warranty Repair

After thinking about it for awhile I caved in and had my pump replaced under warranty. I usually perform all my own repairs and maintenance so I always worry about fixing things that aren't really "broken". I worry something else will mess up after the repair, but after looking at the price of the pump some 1,200 dollars I said sure give it to me free.

Not a fan of leaving my baby in someone else hands though...

I didn't purchase the car from the this dealership but still treated me well I dropped my car off in the evening the service manager said it looks like I took good care of my care so they'll keep it inside over night. That was a nice touch. Took them literally 2 hours the next morning to swap it out. All in all a very pleasant experience my first time owning a car with a warranty and actually using it. I didn't even purchase the car from the this dealership but still treated me well so that was nice.

I've only logged about 100 miles so far but no more crickets! Hope it lasts.... if they come back ill just live with it I don't think I want to start running 2 stroke oil....

Have a good memorial weekend everyone!

I messaged my Toyota rep and she just pretty much stop responding now. Toyota isn't doing shit about the crickets because they don't know what to do. Guess I'll try some Lucas upper cylinder fluid my next fillup. If anything, it HELPS the crap we put in our cars more than hurts.

They will be back. I had your same spirit when I got mine replaced and was completely let down after 300 miles. Some may get 1000 miles, but they will come back.

Look back a few pages...people are starting to hear the chirps from other cars as well! New Normal.

Boooo not what I wanted to hear! I did read most people have them come back since it was free thought it was worth a chance at at least get some "money" out of toyota for it.
I saw someone posted about a Jeep Wrangler doing it as well.... oh well on the bright side the rep printed out the history of the car for me which was nice found out the previous owner actually had the Perrin exhaust put on at the dealer.

So, I took my baby to the dealer...

I took my 2014 FRS to the dealer earlier today (5/23/14 at 0730), as I was scheduled. I took it last week and said the issue with the chirping noise was a high pressure fuel pump.

They called me at lunch time; said the mechanic was about to change the fuel pump when he reviewed the TSB and re-checked the VIN of my car. My car's VIN, he said, do not fall within those VIN numbers reported on the TSB with this issue. He called-up Toyota and Toyota advised him NOT to replace the fuel pump. Toyota said this is normal sound.

The mechanic then had a new stock 2014 (? he claims -since I didn't see it) FRS and open the hood and compared it side-by-side with my car. He reported it HAD the SAME noise.

For my fellow Scion FRS and Subaru BRZ owners/drivers - WHAT DO YOU THINK???

They're being lazy and getting the runaround from Toyota. I'd push em over and over until they change it. But in all honesty, it won't matter. They'll come back. Nearly everyone here has either been thru the change(at least once) and then the chirps still came back. The fixes are non-ethanol gas, adding ashless(<2oz.) two stroke oil to your fuel, or boosting. Good luck.
