I don't blame scion for their course of action as it appears that failure may have been caused by an aftermarket part.
I'd recommend you get into contact with DSS directly, as that sounds like a manufacturing defect.

We will...it turns out that the c-clip that holds axle in place is missing, probably broke...axle piece that goes into diff can be moved along its axis since the clip is missing...will get new clips and check everything on Tuesday at @PrimeMotoring.

As it turns out, we couldn't source Cusco in time for my June track days but CSG got the last OS Giken LSD on the OSG shelves until their next shipment. Thanks @CSG David! Now I need to prepare for half an hour of figure eights at the EFI parking lot on June 6th after the installation...

OS Giken diffs do not require a figure 8 break in. Just a fluid flush after the first 500 street miles or 2nd track day. There might be some metal deposits from the gears seating each other.
After that diff fluid changes as normally scheduled.

OSG doesn't require a break-in, but do change your fluid after the 1st event

blkwrxwag is running an OSG diff in his car, I haven't seen him on here lately but he might respond to PMs. He is sponsored by them I believe. There is someone on here who works for OSG and has a BRZ, but doesn't actually have a diff in his car. The screen name escapes me right now.

Glad you are going to EFI, they will take care of you. It's the only place I would take my car for work I can't do myself. I'll help breakin in that diff!

Have you considered changing your final drive? The auto has tall gearing. Look at your shift points on the track. I track an NA car and am using a 5.1. With your SC you do a 4.3 or 4.55. It really improved drivability on and off the track.

I have but decided against it for now. Need to see everything (many things) upgraded on the car proven to be reliable before further changes. Not sure I need it though, as much as it would enhance the experience given the taller high gears in AT. Plan for now is to get more track time and practice technique. Good suggestion, thanks

That's the best modification you can make. I have been tracking my car since last year with the stock suspension and I am just now getting ready to buy coil overs.

I recently installed a OS Giken super lock LSD unit into my AT 86 (base model in Asia came with no LSD). Got this directly from a Japanese vendor (was much cheaper than ordering from the US) so wasn't able to communicate with them on the setup or configuration. So my setup is direct out of the box 1.5 way.

After installation and driving for around one full tank, I am a bit unsettled about the extremely LOUD clunking during low speed turning. Is this usual? Have had others tell me this is the characteristic of clutch type LSDs, but the sounds from my LSD are really loud.

Also, over humps or small bumps on roads, it sounds like there is stuff rattling in the trunk, which is empty. This noise isn't loud, just like metal plates clanking which I guess is normal. Car was pretty quiet with spirited driving though. I have never driven a car with a clutch type LSD, and have sat in friends' 86s/BRZs with the torsen unit and they are silent.

Also by fluid flush after 500 miles or first event... This is just the diff oil right?

*some* noises are normal. However, if its engaging at low speed, then perhaps it is set to engage too aggressively for your preference. Whining or crunching is not.

Yes, flush the fluid after 500 miles or the 1st event, whichever comes first. We recommend using OSG fluid only.

Have you driven the car hard?
