It's only 13% = $130 on $1000 not worth a trip to stay down there just for that - but if you like your wife and kid I guess it makes sense
Ohhhh so just to understand properl, when you pass the borders, you declare what you buy so you pay duty on it.. what do you end up saving ?

Most companies ship within the lower 48 states free of charge. For larger items that is significant. Also there are no brokerage fees if you go and pick it up, UPS are terrible for that.

Going for a little vacation with the family flying out of Syracuse direct $730 return, flying out of Montreal direct $2500. pick up the OFT along the way. Seems I'll be saving all around.
This country has to rethink it's tax structure.

It's not "duty" it's just the HST
You can end up paying tariff or a duty on Asian or non-NAFTA origin parts - but if it's coming from a US vendor and your paperwork is vague enough they usually won't catch on
I make a spreadsheet with the description right from the invoice or paypal receipt, the cost in USD, the shipping cost croken out if it wasn't free or combined in the price somehow, a grand total and the number of boxes
They haven never questioned my list or dug through my car yet
I also empty out my car of everything but essentials
Print out all of the invoices too to support your spreadsheet

They get used to you coming through the border too so they like seeing you with all your stuff organized.

And everything you bring back is ONLY for you and for personal use only!!
Even if you are getting something for a friend - don't go into stupid details like that.

Ken

Oh my god I am one of those people!!!!

I'm walking in front of the Shoppers drug mart in Barrhaven surrounded by about 10 people. When we hear tire squeals beside the building on Woodroffe. i'm thinking to myself, that sounds like Chad. Sure enough it was. 90 % of the people were frowning about the noise around me, I was the only one with a smile. I have truly joined the dark side. Car looks (and sounds) awesome Chad!!!!!

So my first photoshoot attempt of the season was a failure, to say the least

I brought an old tripod because mine broke, and the swivel kept moving because of the weight of the lens, my speedlight flash ran out of batteries and my backup batteries were actually used dead batteries and last but not least, some bitch ran over and sat on my hood as her friend took a cell pic of her
Talk about ratchet girls. Sigh.

Montreal is lively at night, but don't go out to shoot your car there!

Next time will be better.

Nope, didn't know her.
She was drunk - it was 2 AM in Montreal's old port. I guess it's to be expected, but come on. Everybody else was being nice about it. Some guys were even worried about passing behind it while I was shooting it
