torque wrench

Any suggestions for a reliable torque wrench? I plan to use it for changing wheel lugs. Thanks.

torque wrench

The 1/2" drive harbor freights torque wrench would be the best bang for the buck for the occasional DIYer. It's only around $21 right now I think.

Oops, didn't see that you're from Canada. Don't think they have harbor freights there. Do they?

Canadian Tires Mastercraft 1/2" and 3/8" drive come on sale about every 3 weeks for a good price, usually 70% off, I'd suggest picking it up when it's on sale. It works out to about $30-35 for the 1/2".

Get a Canadian Tire maximum one....make sure it comes with the lifetime warranty. Every few years, just walk in, tell them it is acting funny and they will exchange it no questions asked.

I believe the equivalent of Harbor Freight is Princess Auto in Canada.

I got one for around $25...worked for a while, then it fell apart and I cant find the tiny pieces. But then again it was only $25 for a torque wrench. Does the job if you take care of it.

+1 for CT, be sure to get the 'maximum' version of MC torque wrench. You'll want the 1/2 drive for lugs. As suggested, wait for a 70% off sale, can get it for ~$50.

Whatever you do, don't use it to loosen the lug nuts. Get a breaker bar or use an impact gun.

If you want to spend a bit more and go digital we offer the one from Brownline: http://store.maximalperformance.com/...i-1963261.aspx

Let me know if you're interested and I'll do what I can for you on shipping to Canada.

Of course the one above will get the job done too...

I've seen the digital one at Princess Auto it looks really garbage. Their normal torque wrench that comes in the blue plastic box looks way more sturdy.

Was it a Brownline one? We use a couple of these in the shop and haven't had any issues yet. The handles are a bit thicker than you'd like but that's really the only complaint we have.
