There are definitely some "ouch" moments along that drive. If you drive it enough times you'll remember where those are and at least be able to slow down in time. Last time I went I completely forgot and hit some of those hard.

Whos up for Mines this Saturday? Figure I would take it on my way to the Mann dyno day/meet.

Glad you made it out scathe free The Bolinas-Fairfax rd. is quite scenic but very bumpy, like previously mentioned, I've basically just learned most of the gnarly bumps over the years (there is that one doozy bump that hides right in the middle of a hairpin ). I would recommend the Panoramic hwy as an alternative next time.

Yeah, definitely taking the panoramic the whole way next time around. The dam area is a really great place to take pics though!

On the downhill portion to the dam, I left it in neutral all the way and slowly crept my way through it.

If anyone happens to go out that way again to Alpine Lake, maybe you can do me a favor. Stop at the spot on the right just before the dam, and look around. I believe I may have dropped my memory card wallet with about 5-6 SD cards in it around there while changing out memory cards on my DSLR last week. It's a long shot but maybe it fell on the ground and might still be there?

I was thinking of doing an early morning drive prior to meeting at Mann. Mines/Mt. Ham sounds about right -- were you thinking starting around 8AM?

I would recommend highway 36 from Red bluff towards Eureka, it is very far from civilization but the road condition and turns are excellent. One of the best Touge route in my opinion.

For Sacramento Area, there is always Salmon falls.
