I'm tempting fate here but I'm at 4500 miles and no crickets except for ONCE after I filled up at a station I'd only been to once. And even then I only heard them once when I was in the garage at work.

I'm guessing they will be back eventually but for now I'm going to enjoy the sound of silence.

Garage
Crickets started happening in my FRS this weekend, just shy of 5k miles. I am super sad as it makes my nice car sound like a piece of shit when not moving.

Subu/toyo just needs to add and sound of rain/water running down, birds sinning, wind in the leaves, etc and advertise it as a car for mental disorders.

Mine is still occurring after pump replacement, any tips on how to make it stop? Or tone it down?

I'm adding 2oz of Lucas semi synthetic low ash 2-cycle oil to every tank full of gas, and it solves the problem. I got a gallon jug at o'relly auto parts for $24. 128oz in a gallon means 64 fill ups. About 300 miles on the average tank of gas for me means that one gallon jug will cover 19,200 miles of cricket free driving. It sounded quiet nearly instantly after adding it the first time. I don't mind $24 for cricket free 19,200 mi of driving.

@twag4, what made you choose to add that oil and how do you add it?

There's a post much earlier in this thread (forgive me for not going to dig it out) that says a capful (which works out to approximately a 1:1000 mix) of ash-free two-cycle oil is all you need. I would suggest scaling back and seeing what the minimum you can get away with is.

2 oz is less than 500:1. It's fine. I've been using it for a long time in a catted motorcycle engine at around 500:1 with no ill effects. The usage I described on an 11 gallon fill up translates to a 704:1 ratio. No worries for me. Plus, high flow cats will definitely not be affected by this ratio. If my stock cat(s) fail, this is the route I'd go anyway. Replace with high flow. I finally decided to try it. I'm on my 4th tank using the 2-cycle oil, and the car seems to be running better than ever.

I've used it for many years in lawn equipment and two-stroke motocross bikes. I had part of a jug lying around, and tried it. It eliminated the chirps by the time I got to the next red light a block away. I got a two oz mixing syringe at wal mart. It was located in the automotive department with the gas cans. The oz measurements aren't in black, they are moulded into the plastic syringe. I fill it at the house, plug the little clear hose that comes with it, then off to fill up the tank. The hose with the syringe is stored inside attached to the plunger when you buy it. I leave the hose on, and plug it with a small rubber stopper. Plus, the oil is low ash. The old containers specified tcw3 or whatever. Now it simply says low ash on the bottle. I also like Lucas products.

Are there any negative effects to doing this at every full up?

I can't imagine what they might be. It is such a small amount that I can't imagine it clogging the cats or leaning out the mixture. I can't smell it in the exhaust.
