After a massive effort, we got that down to... 1220kg. So a factory BRZ is 50kg lighter than a race car with one seat, a lot of bare metal, and every lightweight replacement we could put in.

I'd say the BRZ/FRS is a pretty good job right off the showroom floor. Especially given todays safety needs and mandates.

Thank you for the comparison. This speaks volumes to me.

Were the fuel volumes equal with both cars?

A premium trim car, fully fueled without trunk junk should tip in on the low side of 2700, 2750ish on a full tank with junk. RCE weighed-in what I assume to be a pre-prod BRZ at 2714lbs without trunk junk. AVO's car (lowest JDM trim?) doesn't have a LSD, fogs, HIDs (?), A/C, radio, speakers (?), alloy wheels, and IIRC sound-deadening for it to weigh in at ~2580lbs.

Best bet on a lighter weight BRZ? Start out with an FRS.

On a serious note, airbag deletion...wonder how many pounds that could total? I'm talking sides, seats for starters.

wont that leave some sort of dashboard warning sign on? i wouldnt want to remove airbags ..do they really weight alot?? the stuff thats easily removed is the way for me, battery, exhaust , lighter wheels + lighter rotors etc ..maybe lighter seats (if budget supports spending 500$+ on one) ill keep my a/c and radio aswell, its a daily driver, i intend to keep it as one

But one can also remove their brain along with that, also saves a few pounds.

Even it's not equal on both cars, there is no way the difference of fuel volume can be equivalent of 50kg.

Right. Gasoline is about 6lbs per gallon. Mutiple that by the suspected difference in fuel and at most that accounts for 1/2 the weight difference.

Enkei RPF-01 all around will shave 20lb off overall weight due to being

If you're going for sheer performance numbers, wider wheels (and thus heavier) usually* result in faster times (take 9 and 10 inch wide Miata wheels, for instance). If there's one place to spend weight, it's on wider wheels and tires.

* but not always.

True, but it's always nice to compare apples to apples.

Well like its been said if you want the lightest platform, start with the frs first.

Then, I think with I/h/e, lighter wheels and removal of spare/tools, you'll be very close to 2600lbs. And that's with just a bit added noise and not that much compromise.

Then if you wanted to go crazy, you'd remove the seats, put in one racing seat, put in a lightweight battery, remove the stereo and all the speakers and that might get you down to around mid to low 2500lbs.

Then a full gut of all sound deadening, a/c delete, hvac piping, bumpers and I can see it being mid to high 2400lbs.

And after all that factoring gains from the I/h/e and a tune and you might be as fast as an STI. LOL.
