Servicing with street Illegal parts

Hello everyone

I wan to install K&N CAI for my BRZ, and as it appears its street Illegal in some states including NY.

What are the implications of showing up to a dealer for a service like oil change with illegal part like CAI ?

They can impound your car. Most states won't bother, but CA and NY are hardasses.

I have no front license plate, clear side markers with LEDs, tinted windows and a muffler delete all which are illegal in my state and my dealer had no problem with changing my oil and doing maintenance.

But then again in depends on your service advisor.

Talk to them prior to allowing them open the hood of your car see what's okay with them if they say anything negative about it go to another dealership. Or just call from a blocked number and ask questions if you're still concerned.

So basically the dealer has a choice
to take action in those cases where he sees something not street legal installed on the car or act as if it didn't happen ?

Look at it this way... if they call the feds on you, how likely are you to spend money there ever again?

They have nothing to gain from reporting 'illegal' parts..

I highly doubt that will ever happen, most the dealer would do is refuse to work on the car.

I just called my dealer, He said they will service the car even with after market parts installed, when I asked them about after market I didn't mention the words street illegal. but its only CAI by K&N unlike deleting the whole exhaust system. so hopefully Ill get it on soon.

Should be fine as long as the CAI doesn't have a big "This is illegal" sticker i don't think there will be any issues.
Good luck!

I've never heard of a car getting impounded from a dealer for aftermarket parts. That's crazy.

Nothing will happen. I used to service modified cars when I was a Service Tech at Toyota. The only thing you should be worried about is if you're going in for a warranty claim and they concluded the aftermarket part caused the damage.

TL;DR --Nothing.

I can't tell if you're being serious or if you think I was being serious.
