I'm not completely disagreeing with the op. I'm simply disagreeing with the generalization that pretty much anything you do to remove a car from factory condition makes it rice. Which is how it came out with the way he worded it.
Finally you seen the light lol jk :p

I didn't mean for it come off that way. Just saying there are good tasteful mods and some that aren't.

That analogy doesn't make sense. Yes, if the women are "related" then why would you worry if the non-ugly one would look ugly without makeup?

The point that people are trying to make is that the "stock" or "non-riced" twins look better than the riced twins.. or, if you want to use your analogy, the two ugly women are wearing make up and applying it incorrectly (ugly choice of mods, ricer, etc.), whereas the non-ugly woman (minimal mods, stock) looks beautifully naturally.

But regardless, people, get off your high horse. The twins are at a relatively low price point. It's getting to become more and more popular. The more popular it becomes, the better the future will look for the BRZ/FRS from Toyobaru. Gotta take the good and the bad... although some of these FRS/BRZs do make me cringe...

Yes, I did say those three aren't too bad or too crazy. but there will be a time I fear that the twins will be the new Hondas if you will.

My analogy wasnt quite a direct analogy to what the OP said, but an analogy to what the person I quoted said.

Your direct analogy to the topic at hand does make sense though.

Another way to look at it is if theres a family of 5 sisters. You see three of them walk down the street, all three of those have terrible makeup and fashion sense, you might assume all five sisters are like that. That would be the whole worrying about the twins' reputation etc etc.

But yea, popularity for these cars means continued support, both first and third party. Just gotta try to look past the negatives that come with popularity.

Guess I'm a ricer.

Why's it matter what other people do to their cars? Some of us like having fun, and making fun of the car scene. Quit taking everything so seriously.

I think how most people feel, is that they get a car they considered different and unique, but the majority of owners with bad taste end up ricing it out. Therefor the car they drive gets grouped in the classification of all the others, making it less enjoyable when driving it down the street. I personaly was hoping this would be a car I could enjoy without being part of the annoying "scene". I am second doubting myself now, but as long as I mod the car tastefully I'll get to enjoy it just for myself.

I think a lot of it has to do with age, I myself went through the rice phase ten years ago but to younger owners it's still a popular concept. Some still crave the attention, and being part of the "scene" as you mentioned. The 86 looks like an amazing car stock which is rare, but for some reason all it takes is a generic set of wheels to make it look less appealing.

I had a prelude in 2002 that had altezzas on it. They were "rice". Now we all own a car that has ricer tails from the factory.

'Splain that.

Because an Altezza with Altezzas isn't rice.
